The 21st Biggest Winner Challenge Recap

weight loss langley

We’ve been running this weight loss challenge in Langley now since 2010.

And as much as this is a 12 week weight loss challenge, we always remind our participants to focus on building sustainable healthy habits for the long term.

Because rather than putting this challenge at the easiest time of year, we put it at the hardest.

BECAUSE LIFE IS HARD.

And it is not always what we expect it to be…

Our plan is for a steady climb without any hurdles, and it’s very rare for this to happen. Rarely do our expectations match the outcome, but regardless of this, it is our mindset and our commitment to achieve our goal that will aid us the most over time.

And so, we put a weight loss challenge through Thanksgiving, Halloween, the Christmas season and even snow to simulate the struggles that is real life.

We do this because we really wanted our participants to work at integrating a healthy lifestyle while actually living life.

This is how we ultimately help them strike a balance between enjoying the holidays, while moving the needle forward in their fat loss and fitness goals.

And with this said, here is how they did:

Total participants – 60
Total weight lost – 684.6lbs
Average weight lost per participant – 11.4lbs/person

ENOUGH STATS, HERE ARE OUR BIGGEST WINNERS JENNIFER AND JEFF!

Jennifer completed 88 workouts in 12 weeks, averaging 7.3 workouts/week at LVFIT.

Here’s a few words from her:

“This challenge was the kick start I needed to get health and fitness back into my life as a top priority.

I set some realistic goals and decided that striving for perfection was useless. For me, that always leads to feelings of failure, and then self sabotage.

I did not eat perfectly for 12 straight weeks, but I kept carbs low, drank less alcohol, ate smaller portions and worked out as often as I could – at least 5 workouts per week, but often 10. These are things I know I can do forever. Sometimes I didn’t have it in me to give the workout 100% but I showed up anyway and did the best I could. My mantra is ‘you never regret a workout you do, only a workout you don’t do’

It must have been said thousands of times, but it is so true – consistency is key.

It also really helps that Joe makes 530AM fun, and all the trainers and trainees at Befit are super friendly and encouraging! This is just my beginning and there is no end.”

Jeff completed 61 workouts in 12 weeks, averaging 5.1 workouts/week comprised entirely of SWEAT.

Here’s a few words from him:

“First I would like to thank you and all the trainers for the support I’ve been given for the last 12 weeks. Everyone says I did the hard work, but you all motivating me every day kept me coming back and made the work fun and easy, and at the start, that was truly the hardest part.

Now onto the good part.

The most important thing for me was to fix my nutrition. From eating burgers and fries almost daily, to eating single ingredient foods seemed like the hardest thing that I could possibly do. As I got into it, I learned that I didnt need to eat until I was completely stuffed. This was the biggest hurdle for me to overcome. I started off going 3 days a week, but learned that my day wasn’t the same if I didnt go to the gym every morning. After the first 2 weeks, the day after pains started disappearing and I looked forward to my 6 days a week at the gym. I started looking forward to waking up each morning and spending an hour with some awesome people each morning. I stuck with the sweat routine each morning, and it definitely lived up to it’s name.”

These individuals all lost at least 10% in 12 weeks.

Desiree completed 39 workouts in 12 weeks, averaging 3.2 workouts/week comprised entirely of SWEAT.

Closing thoughts:

The snow was bad the last 2 weeks of the challenge and dramatically decreased the attendance of many individuals. In addition to this, many individuals didn’t weigh-in the final week and some narrowly missed their 10% in this challenge because of that.

Traditionally, the average attendance of all participants who achieve the 10% weight loss goal is around 4x/week.
For example in the last challenge, the average attendance of the individuals who lost 10% was 4.3 sessions/week with not one individual being less than 3.7 workouts/week.

In this challenge, the average attendance of the individuals who lost 10% was 4 sessions/week and the lowest was 2.7 workouts/week for those individuals who hit the 10% target. There was also quite a few individuals with lower attendance than expected who achieved the 10% mark which goes to show you if you have a weight loss goal, you can move the needle with 3 days/week training and good nutrition.

(And it goes to show you, that you can go to Vegas as well as many individuals who lost 10% went to Vegas during this challenge).

As always it’s up to you how you want to tackle it. What’s going to keep you the most consistent for the long term?

THEN DO THAT!

We’ll be here to support you.

Committed to your success,

Josh, Karen, Joe, Chantal, Emily, Rachel, Grace, and Spencer
