“When I first came to Befit I had no idea what I was walking into. Since joining it has been life changing. Not only is it a part of my daily routine now but it gives me the energy and self confidence boost that I’ve been lacking. All the trainers are so welcoming and encouraging. They have help in so many ways. From me walking in day one, not knowing what I’m doing and teaching me the proper techniques. To now pushing me to limits that I didn’t even know I had. You guys are amazing! My only regret is not joining sooner. Thank you! “

“Thank you to Josh and all the trainers for fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported no matter where they are in their fitness journey. I look forward to the workouts and know if I show up, do the work and trust the process it sets me up to be successful in my fitness goals.”

“My wife and I joined the Befit team in mid July 2018 on a two week tryout basis. Despite the soreness of this, we both agreed to join Befit August 1 2018 and have been members of the Befit community ever since.
We view our membership as an investment in our health. The reason we have continually stayed on board is twofold.
1) Josh is one of the top Fitness Instructors in Canada, with his passion for helping all members of Befit, motivating emails, willingness to adapt to evolving challenges like the pandemic.
2) The work outs are Never Boring and monotonous and there is something for everybody to enjoy.
We both use the True Coach app till this day and would be lost without it.
I started with the goal of better trail running times and losing weight and being more health conscious. In 2018 I was 180 – 185# average and now have been maintaining 160 lbs for over a year now with proper diet and 5 or 6 workouts per week.
Joining Befit has been one of the best commitments we have made.
Thank you Josh for the Allstar designation and being committed to all of our fitness successes.”

In January 2022, LVFIT moved inside the BEFIT facility, so we celebrate our LVFITFAM who embody what our gym and community is all about!

“First off, I would like to thank LVFIT and all the trainers. LVFIT is the best gym in town! This place has changed my life! I was very afraid for a big guy when I walked into the gym as I was always scared as I wasn’t sure if I knew the right technique, the right form to be able to lift and do the training properly. However, Joe, Grace, Karen and Josh all made me feel very comfortable from the first day.  I want to say thank you to Joe for making the 530am classes super fun and entertaining and to get me going for the day as he knows I’m not a morning person. I used to think getting up that early that you must be crazy and now that I’ve done it’s not so bad it makes the day go by faster and makes you not eat the bad carbs as it makes you think twice about ruining your workout. Josh I would like to say thank you for the emails that you send out as they are motivating and help keep me in check with what I need to be doing with my food intake and the reasons “why” I choose to get in shape. Being an all-star is a huge accomplishment for me as I never thought I would have lasted this long and lost the weight that I did including maintaining my weight loss as I always enjoyed being a couch potato. Thank you to the LVFIT team once again for helping me achieve my goal!”

“I started with BEFIT 2-1/2 years ago. I wanted to find a gym that I enjoyed so I could build muscle and get toned and never thought that I would enjoy it as much as I do. The staff is very caring and very supportive. I love the fact that the workouts are scheduled so I don’t have to spend time trying to figure out the best workouts. “Leave this to the experts.”

They are always there ensuring we are doing each exercise correctly. If we have any pain, they are great in making modifications, so we don’t need to miss classes. In fact, the modifications actually help repair the injury.

The members are very friendly and supportive.

I recently participated in the biggest winner which was the best thing I could have done. I have improved my eating habits and actually lost weight and it’s not a diet. It is a program that I find very easy to continue even though the challenge is over.

The big question is would I recommend friends to join BEFIT. ABSOLUTELY. I believe in what they believe in, and my friends (that I have recommended to join BEFIT) and myself are very pleased with the results.

Thanks again for the continued support!”

In January 2022, LVFIT moved inside the BEFIT facility, so we celebrate our LVFITFAM who embody what our gym and community is all about!

“Killer workouts, amazing coaches, incredible members, and a sweet greeter who offers fist-bumps every time you pass by. LVFIT/BEFIT isn’t just a place to be, it’s a place to belong.

When I first joined the LVFIT family, I hadn’t worked out in years, and I regularly ate my feelings. I knew I had to do something but struggled to find the motivation and the confidence. I was self-conscious and terrified to go to a gym where people would see how out of shape and overweight I was. My friend Stef is a go-getter – I casually mentioned that maybe I wanted to go to a gym but wanted someone to go with me. Next thing I know, I’m at her gym – just to try it… I was skeptical at first because I did not want to have to sign up for a class. I wanted the flexibility to drop in on my schedule. Making an obligation really put a damper on my ability to make excuses not to go!

Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and encouraging! Before my trial was up, I joined a challenge. I did lose weight, but my ultimate goal for that first challenge was simply to keep going to the gym and make it part of my routine.

When I first started at LVFIT, I could not do a sit-up; I could not do a pushup; my “L” hangs were of the lowercase variety; I spent half the round trying to get my feet in and out of the TRX; and when Karen shouted, “core tight,” I thought to myself, How do you do that – everything on my body is tight BUT my core.

I kept going and I got results.

Then covid. Karen and Josh were amazing – online workouts, loaning out their equipment, and writing individual workouts! Then limited capacity and open gym. They morphed into whatever they needed to in order to support their members. I was able to get some workouts in, but it was also a season of intense struggle and my fitness suffered. Shortly after LVFIT moved into BEFIT, I was frustrated by an injury. It made me angry, and I doubled-down my efforts and joined another challenge.

I’m a seasoned practitioner of the what-the-hell effect, and one of the most important things I’ve learned to keep me out of that cycle is to recognize and celebrate little wins so little “slips” don’t cause a derailment. It can be the number on the scale, making it through a day on the reset diet, saying no to dessert, a nice chat with a fellow member, drinking a black coffee, or showing up to the gym when I don’t feel like it.

We all have our own story, our own challenges, our own stumbling blocks, and our own measurements of success. The LVFIT/BEFIT coaches recognize this, and they meet you where you’re at. Good days, bad days, injuries, and personal bests. They know when to lift you up, when to dial it back, and when to push you forward. There’s a perfect balance of “great job, nicely done;” “maybe we should modify that;” and “so, what weights have you got there – is that what you’re using??”

This community has a place for everyone. No matter what your age or fitness level. My husband and all of our kids have also found passion here, and a community that they want to be a part of. For my husband Tim and I, this has become our “thing”– it’s our priority. It has given us a healthy activity to do together, where we are able to encourage each other and share in our successes and our challenges.

In addition to the outstanding programming, the community, energy and camaraderie really help set this gym apart. Sometimes the social aspect can help motivate you to get to class even when your body protests.
We don’t just diet. We don’t just work out. We LVFIT. We BEFIT.

Thank you to the fantastic coaches I’ve had the pleasure of working with – Karen, Josh, Joe, Grace, and Irv. And a special thank you to Karen and Josh for the blood, sweat and tears you pour into LVFIT/BEFIT to provide your members and your coaches with a unique and amazing environment. You are a blessing to this community. Thank you!”

“I’ve been a member at BEFIT for as long as I can remember. Here are just some of the reasons I love it so much:

  • From the moment you walk in someone is smiling at you! It is such a welcoming space. There is no toxic fitness culture vibe at all. All of the trainers and the other members are encouraging, and supportive. They will truly meet you where you are at, offering modifications to make sure you can safely engage with the exercises while also challenging you to reach your potential.
  • I love that it’s for all levels of fitness!
  • I’ve never felt rushed or like an inconvenience if my pace was slower than those around me, and for me when Joe is running the class, there’s just a different energy!
  • I love moving in a group vs doing it solo.
  • I love that we all have our individual spots but also still feels like a group and everyone still benefits from lots of individual attention from the trainers.
  • It’s been my anchor for a long time! I feel so strong when lift heavy weights. Fitness is the non-negotiable meeting I have with myself 5 days a week that when I find myself feeling down, instead of slipping into destructive behaviours and bad habits.. I double down on my rituals, my positive habits and I schedule my workout time slot!
  • I can’t thank Josh enough for putting together the best workouts every month and keeping things exciting, never boring, always so fun and challenging. There is no place I’d rather BE reaching my goals!”

“I can honestly say I am now in the best overall shape of my life. What’s even more important is that I have a new identity as someone who goes to the gym 5 days a week. I dont need to have the conversation with myself anymore “Do i want to go to the gym today?” There is no question, I just go. This is because of the acceptance and support from the trainers and the other members at the gym. I want to thank Joe for always making it fun and enjoyable even when it’s hard. It’s such a great community and family. I love the fact I can just show up and work hard for 50 mins and go home. I don’t need to think about what workouts or stretches to do today. Josh has already done all that hard work for me designing the great workouts. I don’t know if it’s the perfect gym for everyone but it is for me.”

In January 2022, LVFIT moved inside the BEFIT facility, so we celebrate our LVFITFAM who embody what our gym and community is all about!

“Over a better part of my 44 years, I have been overweight and unhealthy. From alcohol and cigarettes to fast food and sugar, overindulging and staying sedentary was my routine. After years of neglect, I finally went for a checkup. Diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol…the doctor basically said make changes or die.

Enter LVFIT! Through a simple google search, I found LVFIT and decided to sign up for the two week trial. I recall being so nervous! My hands were trembling as I typed in my details. However, that paled in comparison to the sheer terror I felt walking in to the gym that first day.

Within minutes of walking through the front door Karen put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. Before the first session was even over, I knew LVFIT was for me. In other gyms, I felt out of place and almost embarrassed. The support I receive and the positive energy that surrounds this gym is immeasurable and off the charts awesome.

LVFIT has been such an important part of my transformation to living a healthy lifestyle. All the instructors are like your own cheering squad, always quick to motivate and support. They are very knowledgeable on fitness/nutrition and always available for questions.

15 months later, I have lost 150lbs, my blood pressure and cholesterol in check and type 2 diabetes is no longer an ailment! No chance that happens without Karen and the programs LVFIT/BEFIT offer. Forever grateful.”

“Over the years Befit has become like a second home for me. To say it’s a gym is an understatement. It’s a community. The support that I have gotten there through some high highs and my lowest lows is unwavering. The trainers, the members, everyone you see inside those doors care about each other, and not just about how many reps you can do or weight you can lift. So thank you everyone for the support I’ve received at Befit, it means the world to me.”

“A few words about about Befit-
The entire Befit experience has been the driving factor in my family’s health and fitness. Befit is a place I can work out with my husband and two older boys or by myself (listening to my podcasts) with the helpful thumbs up from all the amazing trainers. Befit is a place that makes me stronger (physically and mentally) and improves my mobility for lifelong health. Thank you to all the trainers at Befit who have helped me in my journey. Befit is an amazing place! ❤️”

“What is it about Befit that makes me keep at it?

It is Josh and his team of trainers. It’s the perfect combination of expertise, encouragement, accountability (kicking my butt) and motivation that I experience every time I come in.

When I first started, I wasn’t the type of guy to go to the gym. I was lucky to have a job that kept me physically active but 10 years ago I was promoted to a desk and then the weight started to creep on. Showing up in the beginning was intimidating (boy, was I uncoordinated). But Josh had set his program up so that newbies like me could participate. Having experienced several injuries in my youth, the trainers were able to offer alternatives that allowed me to deal with the injury in a safe way as I continued to get stronger. And working out in a group, I could see others who were like me and feel encouraged to keep on. And with time, as I got stronger, I could move on to harder versions of each exercise. And of course, seeing others working out, showed me what was needed to progress and that has challenged me to work harder everyday. I am pleased that every week I set a personal best , lifting weights that I was thought once impossible.

I am very thankful that I made that decision 4 years ago and have become part of the Befit family. The friends I have met have made it all worth while.”

“Josh asked me for a ‘few words’ which is IMPOSSIBLE because there are so many incredible things to say about Befit & it’s community!! I could go on forever about how I promised myself I would be in the best shape of my life when I turned 40 & Befit just helped me crush that goal. Or how much solace this place has given me during some really tough times. Or how brilliantly designed, not just the workout days are, but also each week, each month. Don’t even get me started on all these new muscles that I have that I didn’t even know existed, cause I could rave about those too!

But instead, I want to mention value. Because even though we all pay for the same gym membership we definitely do not all get the same value! So here are my tips & tricks to maximize the value of a Befit membership…

  1. First & foremost, no brainer, the trainers here are beyond amazing!!! They have a ridiculously impressive wealth of knowledge that they will gladly & passionately share with you. Just ask!
  2. Never skip a warm-up or a stretch. They’re so important Josh put them in every single workout!
  3. No matter what your brain tells you, no matter what excuses it can concoct, no matter how logical or convincing they may seem, never skip an exercise, or a round, or even a rep. You can grab lighter weights if you need to, or take a rest, but don’t talk yourself out of anything because you’re the only one you’re cheating. At least that’s what I tell myself every time I do nordics. I hate nordics!! There I said it. But I still do the damn nordics!
  4. Slow down. One slow, thoughtful, focused rep with steady breath can be worth ten fast sloppy reps. There’s no prize for finishing first so you might as well take your time & make each rep count!
  5. Do the Biggest Winner contest. It’s a game changer! I can’t even fathom how much money I’ve wasted on weight-loss gimmicks over the last 20 years. This was by far the best $100 I’ve ever spent!

I am beyond honoured to be a Befit All Star & to join all the badass All Stars before me who have inspired me SO much. I also absolutely have to give a shout out to my girl Johanne Brams who encouraged me to give Befit a try!! Even though we work out at completely different times & I’ve actually never seen you there lol, you helped change my life lady!”

“I just want to say thanks to Josh and all the trainers, they’re all so friendly and knowledgable. They motivate me even on the days I don’t feel like it and forgive me even when I make a mistake week after week. And a quick shout out to all the friends I’ve made at the gym. You’ve made the last two years pretty incredible considering the circumstances.”

“Going to a gym was completely out of my comfort zone. I had never worked out before and really didn’t know how to start but knew I needed to make some lifestyle changes. After doing my research, BEFIT’s personal training in a group setting seemed to be best suited for me. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be my thing after my 1st meeting with Josh in 2019 but I decided to stick with it and see what happened. I came to the classes on a regular basis but still, in my mind, was not making a lot of progress. Then I woke up one day in the beginning of 2021 and I decided I was going to seriously make a change. I set small, achievable goals for myself and slowly but surely started losing weight. It wasn’t as fast as I wanted, but I am not as young as I once was, and I realized putting on the weight didn’t happen overnight, so losing it overnight wasn’t going to happen either. Strength training is slowly giving me a body I never knew I wanted and muscles I didn’t know I had! I’ve discovered that I am a work-in-progress and am excited to see how much more I can improve. This is a great community and I have made great new friends and I can’t thank Josh, Emily and Irvin enough for their encouragement and positive attitudes.”

Michelle Dehaas

October 2021

“Even though I can’t imagine a week without working out now, fitness has not always been a part of my life. I decided to make my health a priority after having my first baby 11 years ago and I haven’t looked back. It’s been a true lifestyle change and quite honestly one of the best decisions I have made. It’s a conscious daily decision that has given me a whole new way of life. I am so grateful for BeFit and how it checks all the boxes for me. I have been a member at a few gyms over the years but here are a few things I love most about BeFit.

  • The watchful eyes from the coaches. The tweaking of form and spurring on is so appreciated! Thanks Chantal and Emily especially with our early morning crew.
  • The challenging workouts. I love that there is always a mix of fun and pain. Some slower paced, more controlled sessions and some fast and furious ones too. It’s good to do exercises I don’t love; probably means I need to focus more of them.
  • The programming is thought out and I love how you can see it builds on what the month before offered. I love to lift a barbell, boy do I ever , but I know the clamshells and band pull-apart’s serve a purpose too. Thanks Josh for keeping us balanced out.
  • The community we have. It doesn’t matter what class you show up to at any time of day, you can see the community and encouragement at our gym. People genuinely love to see people around them improve in strength and fitness. I love seeing all the regular faces at our early morning classes. We have some good healthy competition which always pushes me a little harder and I love that!

At the end of the day, fitness is more than all of that for me. I love to work out for my physical strength and health but more so, for my mental well-being. I feel like myself when I can move my body and am so grateful that the team at BeFit is here for that.”

“I joined Befit about six years ago because I wanted a strength based program without the anxiety I felt going into a gym alone. I was fine in a class because I just followed along but aerobics was not what I wanted and bootcamp did not do it for me either. At Befit I get the benefit of personal training in a group setting, the coaches are all great and the choice of workout times is better than I have seen anywhere. Josh always goes above and beyond to help everyone reach their goals and get what they need. I know I never would have got through the lockdown last year without his generosity and hard work, for sure.
The daily workouts he sent on the coaching app were customized for the equipment he lent me (what other coach would sign all their equipment out of their gym?! Wow!)

Those workouts everyday were a lifesaver for my mental, emotional, and physical well being during a tough time in isolation while working a very stressful job from home and really missing my family. I also realized the benefit of shorter workouts 6 days a week instead of the 3 days I was doing before the pandemic and I have continued with that and the results are tangible. Josh is right—consistency is key!”

“Out of all the lessons I have learned over the last couple years, three key items come to mind the most.
1. BE patient.
This transition did not happen overnight. After a lifelong battle, It took a few years to make it this far with consistent effort.
2. DO not quit!!
Unfortunately , there was a time where I did quit. I wasn’t making the progress I wanted and found it harder and harder to walk through the Befit doors. I was concerned on how it looked that I was there so often and noticeable progress wasn’t being made. So I walked away for awhile. BIG MISTAKE. Things only got worse and any progress I had made was lost.
I finally realized I needed to go back and called Josh. I heard the magic words “See you in 20 min”
From this point on I have not looked back… only looked forward and around to everyone alongside me.
3. ASK for help!
BEFIT is full of resources for information. The knowledge and support is all around you. Do not hesitate to ask for any advice when it comes to the workouts, injury modifications, nutrition or goal setting ideas. Every trainer at BEFIT has been very supportive and kind. I also want to thank everyone that I see at the gym. That consistency and the friendly nature of everyone has made this way more fun.
Special thanks to all staff at BEFIT for the continued support over the past many years!! See you at the gym!”

“I started coming to Befit probably 8 years ago. Never coming super regular but tried to make it part of my routine. Taking hiatus every now and then (two kids later) trying different gyms and always coming back. I loved the structure, type of workouts and the community. Having played college basketball I loved the team and competitive aspect of the gyms atmosphere pushing and encouraging each other to be better. This last year as it has been for everyone kind of shook up our lives, taking away what we thought we could control. Leaving me with a bag of chips and bottle of wine every night trying to deal with a 2 and 5 year old at home. Josh started the biggest winner competition back in the fall of 2020 I decided I was going to do it for 2 weeks full on do everything they say and show up to the gym consistently and then go from there. I kind of kept this mentality of making small goals not looking to far ahead just focusing on today making the right choices of showing up to an amazing gym where I could socialize and get a good workout in and changing my eating habits. I am so beyond grateful for Befit/trainers and the people that constantly encouraged me and helped me continue on my journey. Looking forward to achieving my new goals at Befit!”

“Wow, to think back, 2010 Swarm Jam changed my life. I was always active, always felt busy, however was never an active member of any gym. Maybe I felt intimidated or nervous, but I never felt that from my first day at Newlands. Josh made it okay. I have moved with Josh & team to various gym locations – it’s so great to see him grow his business. Josh’s well thought out workouts with different fitness levels have made me stick with it for all these years. I have definitely fluctuated with weight as my eating and drinking habits have always been the same. I like what I like, however this has even changed for me. I have lost weight, but for me, it’s more that I feel great mentally as I know I have improved my life and health. Thank you to all the trainers, however biggest shout out to Chantal – you truly inspire me always. I have also made some great friends over the years. “Joining BEFIT is the best thing happened to me during the covid pandemic. I did not realize how they all became family and I just could not stop myself from going to the gym. In the beginning the workouts were a lot harder due to my unhealthy lifestyle but I started to improve slowly and slowly. The workouts were hard and effective so the thought of wasting my hard work in the gym stopped me from eating all kinds of unhealthy food. The BEFIT team is the best. Emily, Joe and Josh are the best trainers and with so much knowledge. I can not thank them enough for the help they have provided me . They helped me build my foundation in the gym, getting my basics rights and guiding me properly through each step and exercise. I still ask them a lot of questions and bug them to check my form during exercise and they always help me with a smile. I can see a huge difference in me not only in terms of losing weight but also getting little muscular and body getting in shape. The environment is so nice in the gym, I don’t think anyone else can resist once they start coming to gym. I made friends at the gym too who also motivate me to push harder and reach goals. Being in such kind of positive environment and around motivated mindset people, I think everyone can reach their goals. There have been a lot of up and downs during my journey, they still happen but if I go one step back I come back 2 steps stronger with more motivation, positivity and hard work. I think I go to a gym where I get top level educated and experienced trainers as friends and helpers. What more can one want! I love BEFIT, it has helped me achieve half my goal and is helping me to reach the full potential and complete my goals. Thank you guys!”

I’ve been a member of Befit for a couple of years now, but really started ramping up my workouts in September. I regularly attend 6 days a week and only miss a day if there is a very good reason. I love going to the gym and it has become such a part of my daily routine. The workouts are challenging and I always feel motivated by the trainers as well as other Befit members. “First of all I want to thank BEFIT for changing my life. I started coming to BEFIT back in 2011 but throughout the years I tried different gyms but kept coming back to BEFIT. I now know I have found my community and gym. Back in September 2020 results (high blood pressure, heart issues) I received from my doctor opened my eyes to the fact that I needed help. I needed to get my fitness back but especially my nutrition needed changing now. I joined the weight loss challenge in October and to my surprise I weighed the most I have ever weighed. What an eye opener. From that day on I was on a mission to become better. I remember a phrase Josh used that I wrote on my bulletin board and would read every day to motivate myself. It was simple but effective “100% fitness 100% nutrition”. For 12 weeks I followed those words. BEFIT has helped me transform my body, my health is back to normal and I feel better than I ever have. A special thank you to Josh and Emily for all your encouragement and support over those weeks. It does not end here, I look forward to my continued journey. There will always be new goals to meet.”

“When I came to Befit in 2019, I was recovering from a car accident. I was overweight, in pain daily and riddled with depression and anxiety. I did my 2 week trial and joined a challenge directly after. I spent the next several weeks talking myself into showing up 3 times a week to get my workouts in. By the end of the challenge, I had become stronger and lighter. Close to the end of 2019, I decided to try working out in the morning. Once that happened, it was a game changer for me. I was able to make it into the gym every single day. I had just started seeing shape in my body (that wasn’t round) and I was becoming a happier person. Then Covid hit! And I appreciated every day that the gym was still open. Sadly the gym was forced to close, but the spring challenge was still on! I continued working out at home with the equipment Josh so graciously lent out and the TrueCoach app. This is when I learned that I had fully committed myself to my health. When the gym reopened, I felt so happy to be ‘home’. I have made so many new friends that I am happy to see every day. I have a new found confidence that I have never had in my life (you might find me in the line up learning everyone’s name) and my anxiety level is lower than it has been for as long as I can remember. If you are looking for a gym where you can feel at ease, Befit is the place to be. I love my Befit family.”

“I love waking up early and meeting my 5:30 crew. They keep me accountable! BEFIT is a place of encouragement, commitment, and the perfect amount of friendly competition. I started back in January unsure if this was my fit however by the beginning March I was seeing results! When the gym was shut down, equipment was lent out, Chantal showed up every morning at the park, in the dark with her snowsuit on to coach us. They built home training programs and our coaches checked in daily! I joined a weight loss challenge and was completely shocked with the results. With BEFIT I have lost weight, gained strength, learnt about nutrition and have increased energy.”

“I joined Befit last winter after having my third child. I was overweight, tired and needing to feel like myself again. I could tell instantly Befit was a community that I wanted to be part of. I told myself I would make the time for me every few days to get a workout in and my family was on board to help me achieve that. With the variety of classes, there was literally No Excuse not to get there. Just show up and give it your all for 1 hour of your day. I would leave my clothes out the night before, arrange childcare, move my plans around so that my needs weren’t the first to get pushed aside. Those little steps every day, helped me reach the goals I set for myself. I started to see what my body was capable of and the strength and determination I had. My few days a week turned into 5/6 days a week and I am so much stronger than I ever was pre-kids. A new workout at Befit is like Christmas morning! It’s amazing to see your growth over the month as you push yourself to beat your previous time or weight. I used to be intimidated by some of the movements, but Josh and his entire team go above and beyond in their knowledge and guidance. Even during Covid, the gym had reinvented what their support looked like while we were at home and it is always evolving for the better. The energy that Josh and his trainers put into the gym is contagious, take that and put it into your workout, you might inspire someone else to up their game. Thank you to all the members that give it your all, you inspire me and have sparked the inner competitor I didn’t know I had.”

“First I’d like to say Befit has been life changing for me. I used to think that I was somewhat in shape and always have worked out hard but what Befit has taught me is that I wasn’t lol! I had been going to the gym since I was 19 on and off throughout the years but my growth over this past year and a half at Befit has been much more than I thought could happen when I joined. I’m forced to do workouts I neglected before ie legs, cardio and mobility! From it my core strength and overall strength has sky rocketed! I never thought I had 30lbs to lose (lost from the weight loss challenge), let alone 50lbs!! And now I’m going for another 5! My biggest challenge was nutrition and with the help of Josh and his team I was able to get on track. Changing my thoughts of it being a diet to just my way of life was also a big impact. Josh and the trainers are very helpful always answering all my questions whether it be about weight training, stretching or nutrition, always going above and beyond my expectations of a gym! They’ve worked around injuries I have had, new and old. This isn’t just a gym it’s a Community or I like to say a Family. I don’t know what else to say but I Love it here, thank you to everyone at Befit!”

“I have been running and or weight lifting on and off since I was a teenager., mostly at home. While I enjoyed it, long periods of time went by without a single workout. I lacked motivation for one reason or another. I tried Befit before a Destination wedding to try it out. Loved it. Took the summer off thinking I would continue what I started at home, and didn’t. Started back in September, and not once since then have I even thought about making an Excuse not to come. While many a day I have cursed under my breathe at some of the workouts, I think it is those same challenges that keep me coming back. Also have been inspired by not only Josh’s commitment to bettering us, ( above and beyond during COVID ), the trainers enthusiasm, but also from fellow member’s energy and drive. Just turned 60, and Best shape in 35 years. I am doing exercises trainers have demonstrated that I thought I could never do. Great Recipe for success Befit.”

“I joined Befit in January 2020 after seeing the amazing results my friend Lesley achieved taking part in The Biggest Winner. I was 57, unfit and overweight. I lived in big baggy sweatshirts and sweat pants, never looking at myself in a mirror as it made me feel depressed. After talking to Lesley, I looked at the website dozens of times and eventually signed up for the 2 week trial, but upon arriving that first day, decided to sign up for membership before I could change my mind! I was a little overwhelmed at the beginning as I didn’t even know how to warm up but everyone was so supportive! When the Biggest Winner was posted I signed up. The metabolic reset made me totally change the way I was eating. I used to have lots of processed food plus take out at least 3 times a week. I kept following the reset the whole 12 weeks. With the fantastic support of Joe, our coach, I lost 17% of my body weight. When the gym closed during the challenge, I started working out with the True Coach App with Joe 5 to 6 times a week at home. I feel better than I have in years. If I don’t work out, I feel something is missing in my day! Joining Befit was the best thing I have ever done for me! I love that classes are scheduled all day, not a set class at a set time and especially the variety of the workouts so that everyone can work at their own level. Enormous thanks to Josh, Joe and Irvin for all their help and support, it made all the difference!”

“Thirteen years ago I suffered a serious knee injury in soccer which pretty much ended my playing days. For years I didn’t know what was next and quickly found myself being 30lbs over my playing weight. I would try different gyms by myself but that just wasn’t working for me. In the spring of 2013 I discovered and joined The Bootcamp Effect (now BeFit) which has been the best thing for my health and fitness. At first I tried my best to make it four days per week, but three was acceptable. Now I love it so much if I miss one day during the week I just don’t feel right. BeFit has helped transform my body, given me strength, confidence, and some great friendships. Thank you to my trainers along the way Josh, Karen, Laurie, Alicia, Joe, Irvin, Emily for all your help. Especially now my 6am trainers Chantal, Patrick and my 6am crew for pushing me and holding me accountable. If I miss a class I definitely hear about it. Where were you slacker!!? Thanks Josh and trainers for a great gym environment and always evolving to make sure we are getting the best workouts possible. I look forward to continuing this journey and reaching new goals with everyone at Befit.”

“I was wanting to find a gym that worked for my life, but kept making mental excuses why I couldn’t fit it in. Our family had been going through an extremely stressful time and I had put on a lot of weight. I had been a member at a few other places over the years, but found it hard to stay committed. Often it was because many gyms offer many types of classes and the ones I enjoyed were only at times I could not regularly make. It also didn’t help that I LOVE TO EAT! Enter BEFIT. My hairdresser told me that her friend, Kendra, was LOVING her gym and that I might want to try it out. Now having a direction of where to look, I joined for the two week trial in June 2018 and have not looked back! The multiple classes throughout the day, with Josh’s well thought-out workouts with fitness levels & variety and augmented by fantastic coaches (thank you Chantal, Joe, Josh, Karen, and Patrick!), have become something I look forward to daily! I have not only lost over 50lbs, I have gained strength, stamina, & confidence, something I didn’t even think would be possible given my past failures. I started with three workouts a week; now I come in 5 times because I love it so much! Josh’s blogs and emails have also been so encouraging to me to keep on living a healthy lifestyle beyond the workout. I have incorporated a clean eating style with almost no sugar, which has really helped. Sometimes I ‘fall off the wagon’ (ahem, Christmas) but I have the tools now to get right back on and keep going.”

“I had joined Befit in September 2014 for the Biggest Winner challenge for just three months. Over the years I had joined gym after gym and for the first few months was consistent then as time went on I start feeling bored or lose interest. The program Josh has set up is amazingly suitable for all fitness levels, challenging, effective and never boring. Well, It has been over five years and still going strong. Yes, I have lost over 60 lbs and over 12 inches just off my waist, but it’s not what you lose at Befit, it is what you gain. For me I have gained my health, confidence, self esteem and strength ?which I could not have achieved without the experience, training and support of Josh and all the trainers, Thank You. And lastly I gained a community and friends at Befit.”

“I have been coming to Befit for two years now and it has been a great lifestyle change for me. I always struggled going to other public gyms and could never stick with a good routine and would be uncomfortable so I would end up not going, but since I’ve been with Befit I have been pretty consistent in coming fives times a week. It takes a lot of the thinking out of it for me knowing that when I show up there will be a workout that will most likely push me to some of my limits especially with our great trainers pushing me even more when I feel I have nothing left. I have definitely fluctuated with my weight as food is such a huge factor to losing weight and I’m still working on that, but I have also gained a lot of muscle I may not be a big guy but I surprise myself with how much I can lift. I still have a lot of hard work to do in the future to get where I would like to be but I know Befit will help me get there.”

“I have been a member of befit for a number of years on and off when I came back this last time almost about a year ago I came back all in about 3 months after I joined they started one of their famous biggest winner challenges and I did the craziest thing I actually listened to what they told us to do and was very successful with accomplishing some of my fitness goals. Now it’s just part of my life like eating and sleeping I love how there is always something to work towards for your fitness goals. The trainers are so amazing! I had a surgery in the summer and when I came back they were so accommodating with the workouts and modified anything I wasn’t able to do. Honestly hands down joining befit has been the best thing I have done for my health and wellness.”

“I joined BEFit in early December 2018 on a 2 week trial in search of something to help me focus on my mental health and rededicate my overall well being. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I had come across something special.

The staff has been amazing. Helping me every step of the way. I cannot stress it enough at how awesome each of them are and the energy they bring every day is contagious.

Sure, I’ve lost weight, but the biggest thing for me is how I feel mentally. I have also been in the process of replacing my wardrobe. Slowly, as there’s still a lot more work to be done.

Thank you BEFIT for literally changing my life.”

“Joining BEFIT has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I couldn’t be more grateful to Josh, the trainers, and all the people that create such an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. The workouts are always changing so you never get bored. But they are also created for any fitness level, so anyone can do them. I have been a member for 2 years now and I’m obsessed. April 2019

“I was approaching my 50th birthday and was sick of feeling tired, suffering from body aches and back pain, and feeling like I was trapped inside someone else’s body. I was inspired by my co-worker/friend Maxine, who always raved about her gym and exuded the energy and strength I was longing for. So, in October 2018, I decided to go on a quest to “Make Michele Great Again!” and signed up for Befit’s two-week trial. I’ve never looked back.

I knew it was a special place, when I walked in for my second class and was greeted by name. Alicia, Joe, Josh & Irvin have been incredibly supportive and encouraging, and are so great at making modifications if I’m hurting, and giving recommendations to avoid injury, and getting the most benefit from each exercise. I also love the convenience of multiple class times to work around my kids’ busy schedules.

I’ve had many friends comment on my weight loss and ask me how I’ve done it. I tell them I joined an amazing gym. The first question they ask is “how much?”. My answer is “priceless”. My only regret is not finding this place earlier. I never thought I’d also be “that person” who loves going to the gym, but here I am…

‘Be fit and have fun!’”

“I joined BEFIT in February 2018 thinking I would only do the two week trial. I was not wanting to leave my comfort zone of daily running. I knew it would be good for me but was afraid to take the first step. After only a few classes I realized that this gym was awesome! The workouts that Josh creates every month are amazing and so much fun. Most days I am at the 6am class with Alicia and Chantal. They both encourage, challenge, and push me to be better. The positive environment that they create keeps me motivated.

BEFIT truly has changed my life. I am stronger, healthier and looking forward to my next workout!”

“I joined BEFIT about 5 1/2 years ago. looking for something to add a little more intensity to my workouts. I had always been active but it is difficult to get motivated and push yourself when you are alone. I had tried other clubs of a similar nature but they felt like a “business”. Josh & BEFIT were instantly different. This felt like a passion that Josh turned into a business in order to share it with other people. I was impressed with the thought that went into every workout. Each workout is designed with the previous day in mind. Each week is designed to make sure that you’re working your entire body. At BEFIT I was getting a much more complete work out and doing the exercises that I would avoid (or do incorrectly) on my own, the exercises that I needed the most! As good as the exercises are, it is much more than just working out. I appreciate that Josh takes the time to help people with their nutrition, with their injuries, their weight loss struggles and goals. It is a place where you feel comfortable regardless of your fitness level or your age.

It has now grown into a way of life, I do not have to think about what I’m going to do, I just show up and I know if I put the effort in I will get the results. I’ve met good people, people who motivate you to push yourself. The one hour I spend at BEFIT each morning is the first and most important appointment of my day. I cannot imagine not ever going there!”

January 2019

“I first joined BEFIT almost 2 years ago. I only went to the gym 2-3 times a week and didn’t eat very well. I contemplated entering the Biggest Winner Challenge and finally decided to commit to it. I looked forward to the nutrition talk the day the challenge began. I had no idea how much the mental motivation part of the talk would stick with me. Most of this is mental. Making a conscious decision not to take that treat at work, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and working out right to the beep all made a difference. As the pounds came off it made me work harder. I moved up to the fitness level from fundamentals.

On the path to achieving my goals I cut out treats, I didn’t snack after dinner, I limited carbs and ate more protein and veggies, and worked out 5 days a week. I enjoy working out now and feel bad when I miss a day (never thought I would say that!).

Since the Biggest Winner, I have tried to maintain the challenge in my mind. During the week I stick to healthy eating and now reserve treats like wine and chocolate for the weekends. My will power has surprised me. I don’t snack after dinner and limit carbs in my meals.I have maintained my workouts to 4-5 days a week as this is what I am used to, and enjoy it. The effort has been worth it.

Thanks to all the BEFIT staff for their motivation and support. I look forward to continuing my healthy lifestyle!”

Almost three years ago I walked through BEFIT’S doors and never looked back. I had been searching for a great TOTAL body workout and I new within minutes I had found it at BEFIT !!!! The workouts are all laid out for you and so well structured each and everyday of the week. Throughout the month you have the chance to increase your strength , weights and really push yourself. All the trainers are amazing they know how to give you that push you need and the motivation you deserve. To all the trainers thank you so much for all your support and encouragement each and every class!!!!

“I first walked into Befit 4 years ago after poking fun at my buddy for joining a “Bootcamp”. He challenged me to go for a week….challenge accepted, but man was I wrong. After splitting my board shorts on day 2 I learned not only that proper gym attire was necessary, but that this place was something special. Since joining Befit my lifestyle has done a complete 180. From a pack a day smoker with a very questionable diet and a more or less sedentary lifestyle, to now where I am smoke free, and miserable when I can’t make it to the gym. Hurray for healthy addictions! Unlike most gyms, at BeFit you feel a sense of belonging. Where staff and other members encourage you, push you to do better, and pick you up when you need it.

The always changing workouts keep things fresh and challenging. The three level workouts ensure that people of all ages and fitness levels can participate.

I would like to personally thank all the trainers, past and present, who have made such a positive impact on me. Without you guys and gals there to yell at me when my squats aren’t low enough or when my toes don’t quite touch the bar ( josh lol ) I wouldn’t be where I am today physically and mentally.

Side note .. did I mention I met my future wifey here, one of my groomsman, the man who will marry us, our MC and an entire flash mob of spectacular humans who helped with my proposal?! How’s that for community ?

Thank you Befit! See you tomorrow ?”

“Prior to BEFIT, I never went to a gym as I didn’t know what to do so I’d just go for runs. Lifting weights used to terrify me. But 1.5 years ago I stepped into BEFIT and never looked back. Every growth I’ve made I owe it all to the trainers. I have a habit of taking the easy way out as I don’t like failing but the they don’t let that happen. They are constantly challenging me to push myself. Somehow, they seem to know what I am capable of better than I know myself. I appreciate the constant help, encouragement, and even the super cheerful Saturday mornings. I’ve loved the relationships and community that I have built with other BEFIT members. They keep me accountable and challenge me. My day no longer feels complete if I haven’t made it to the gym, which I never thought I’d say. Thanks a lot to everyone at BEFIT!”

“I was bored with my gym and was looking for something different and decided to give Befit a try. Historically I would become frustrated with these type of group workouts as I have permanent injuries and limitations to what I can do, I would go for a month or two then quit. That has not happened here. I have been able to work around my injuries with the help of the coaches and still feel challenged in my workouts. In fact the flare-ups I experience as a result of my injuries have lessened since I started working out at Befit. Losing weight was a great side effect of finally finding a place I can challenge myself in the gym again. I love that I don’t have to waste time trying to plan my workouts anymore. I can just show up and it’s all taken care of for me. The variety is great so I don’t get bored nor do I ever feel like I have hit a plateau. There is an awesome group of coaches that are truly supportive in a non intimidating environment. Thank you Befit!”

“In January of 2017 I came across an ad for BEFIT. I was fat and unhappy with the way I looked and felt. The testimonials of members gave me the courage to make a change. Within a week I had my consultation with Josh and my first class.

The minute I walked through the door I felt positive vibes and a family-like feel that I have never had at any other gym. With 52 choices throughout the week it is easy to find an hour a day to make it to a class. No more excuses! The amazing workouts are planned so all I need to do is show up and put in the effort, mindless really. All the trainers at BEFIT are fantastic and supportive and give me the push I need. I continue to work towards my fitness, nutrition and weight loss goals. My spirit is renewed!!”

The trainers are so encouraging and genuinely care about their members. Karen, Alicia and Chantal are the best and always push me a bit further each workout. When I look at the person I was 10 months ago I just can’t believe how far I have come. The best part is that I enjoy the workouts and crave the sore muscles! Being a busy mom of two I love that I can come in Monday to Friday and have a total body workout where I don’t have to think. I just show up and give it my all. Thank you BEFIT!”

“After months of running countless hours on the treadmill, following online workout programs, and actively avoiding the use of heavy weights for fear of becoming “bulky” I finally became frustrated with my lack of progress and decided to invest in my health and fitness goals by joining BEFIT. In the past 10 months I was able to progress through the 3 levels of programming that BEFIT offers. Instead of outwardly cringing at the thought of lifting weights, I’m now genuinely excited to perform dead-lifts, power cleans and front squats. Throughout this experience, I have been able to become stronger both physically and mentally and I believe this can be attributed to the encouragement and enthusiasm the coaching staff provide each and every class; whether it’s 6am or 7:30pm they are always full of contagious energy. Their wealth of knowledge in terms of fitness and nutrition has lead me to view my health and fitness goals through a more holistic lens. Through this journey I have changed aspects of my lifestyle that have contributed to a healthier, happier, and more confident me.”

“Before starting BEFIT my lifestyle was out of control. Midnight runs to fast food joints to fridge raids… Eating was a way to keep myself busy or for instant gratification and at the end, I never was happy. Being a mother and a wife, I knew I needed to make a change because if I wasn’t happy, my family wasn’t happy. Once I made the choice to join BEFIT, I admit I was scared but I needed to do it. I needed it for me. As training went on, I saw results, and I became more confident and happy, and most importantly, my family was happy. I’m healthy and active and can do so much more with my life and it’s all thanks to BEFIT. A special shout out to our BEFIT trainers for always pushing me to the limit and keeping me motivated. “To me this lifestyle is not about losing weight but about feeling good with who I am. I don’t know my weight and I don’t care about it. It is just a number that does not define who I am. So many years ago, my life revolved around counting calories, measuring portions and weighing myself every week, until I realized that I had become a slave of meaningless numbers. I changed my diet to a plant based diet and made exercise part of my life. I do exercise because I want to be fit, I want to feel strong and I want to run faster (I am a long distance runner). If I feel good and I like what I see in the mirror, then I am where I am supposed to be. I have found in BE a place that gives me the workouts that I need to be that strong, fit woman that I want to be. I have been coming here for 5 years in a row, non-stop, ever, and I have not gotten tired of it. I love coming here! Every first week of the month I am completely sore, as if I had never exercised before, and this makes me happy and keeps me challenged. Since I joined bootcamp I have checked some fitness bucket list things: push ups, pull ups, toes to bar, rig rows, hand stand push ups, etc. All of those exercises were not even part of my wildest dreams 5 years ago, and I have been able to check them off, one at a time. BEFIT is more than a place to work out, it is a family. I love seeing my time slot people, I love seeing the trainers, I love the variety, and I love Alicia. Ask Alicia for the sexy jumping jacks. “In November 2016 I joined BEFIT. I’ve belonged to gyms in the past but lost interest very quickly. I found the typical gym setting didn’t hold my interest. A co-worker told me about BEFIT and how she’d been a member for many years. I didn’t really have any expectations and thought I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Well thanks to Josh & the gang I was hooked from the very first night and haven’t looked back. Since joining I have lost a total of 15 pounds and am really starting to see the muscle definition in my back and arms that I have been working towards for so long. I love my 6am crew, it’s the best way to start my day. Alicia and Chantal are constantly pushing me to work harder and because of their encouragement I am doing things I never thought I could – handstand pushups, pull ups, chin ups, dips, the inverted hip thing. December 2017

“When I walked through the door at BEFIT a little over four years ago I honestly did not realize I was taking the first step to changing my life. After cruising through my twenties with not having to workout, simple play beer-league hockey a few times a week, and not gaining weight I suddenly found myself in my mid-thirties with no muscle mass and a good sized belly. I struggled for a couple of years trying to workout at local fitness clubs to no avail. There was no motivation for me, and more importantly no support. To say the least, I was very frustrated and couldn’t maintain a consistent work out regime. That all changed the day I did my first class at BEFIT.I started my first class at 185lbs and made it half way through the workout and had to stop due to overexertion. But unlike the other gyms where I would leave discouraged and not return, something different happened. Josh walked over and gave me a pep talk. He told me that a lot of guys in my situation go through this and I need to keep at it and in no time I would be able to handle the workouts with ease. So I took him at his word and sure enough my life changed. Within a few months I was at the gym six days a week and doing the BEFIT level workouts, pushing to improve every day. I also started watching my diet with Josh’s guidance and now, four years later, I am in the best shape of my life and strive to lift more, move faster and push harder at every workout. And although I’ve only lost 2.5 pounds since day one, the body transformation is shocking when I look at my day one photo. Josh and his great trainers have helped me commit to a healthy, active lifestyle; and I can’t thank them enough. And if that wasn’t enough I found something else, something I can’t put a price on, at BEFIT. A great community! Josh and his staff have created a supportive, encouraging, and fun environment that attracts some of the best people I’ve ever met. No matter what my mood is walking through the door at BEFIT in know I will leave all the stress of life behind when I walk out. It did not take long for BEFIT to become my “happy place.” I’ve met too many great people to mention here, but needless to say my decision to make a healthy change in my physical life has led to healthy changes in my mental and social lives.

So thank you to Josh, Karen and all the great trainers, past and present. And thank you to all the great people I’ve met over the last four years. I could not have gotten where I am today without everyone’s support and encouragement.”

I was in a fitness rut where I would run every day in the spring and summer then when the weather changed I would sign up a local gym with no real structure and basically go through the motions until the weather got better and repeat the same routine. When I finally committed to attending bootcamp and saw how the classes are structured, how the trainers take the time to show you proper techniques, encourage you to push yourself I finally found what I was missing in a daily workout.

Even though I would attend classes 6 days a week I still wasn’t dropping any weight and I was just fooling myself that I could eat whatever I wanted and justify it by saying “I went to gym today”. It wasn’t until August 2017 that I decided to sit down with Josh and ask him for advice on what I wanted to achieve. I asked another member Kaitlyn if she would be interested in doing this and she agreed and I think it was very beneficial because we would share ideas, meal ideas and supported each other to reach our goals and to this I want to thank her. Josh changed my whole diet and it was a struggle to change but I had to do it if I wanted to lose weight.

I have met some really good friends here and it’s great to see how everybody supports each other and helps try to achieve their goals. Emily, Jess, Kaitlyn, Meagan and the rest of the 6.30AM class I look forward to sweating out the nights’ workout.

To Josh, Karen, Joe, Ruth and all the other trainers thank you for pushing me to try to lift more. Squat more. Finally to Alicia – someone who is not afraid to use my full name when she sees me “dogging it” or standing on my sled. Thank you for your constant support and great attitude towards making my 1 hour workout worthwhile.”

“The program and trainers at BEFIT are all awesome!!!!! I’ve been going to BEFIT for 6 months now and I’ve never felt this good physically or mentally in my life….Oh and my sleeping is even better, the program and motivation that I receive from BEFIT is unlike nowhere else. From when I started to the point I’m at now, there is a huge difference in my strength and mobility and the program that is drawn up for us is great ?? Cheers!”

“I joined BEFIT in January 2016 and can say it was one of the best decisions of my life. At the time I was looking for an alternative to just going through the motions at the gym. I found that when I went to a local gym, I lacked motivation to really push myself. Additionally, I just found it boring. My first class at BEFIT had me hooked. I can remember feeling a sense of exhaustion and inspiration that I didn’t get anywhere else. Alicia was one of the regular trainers at my time slot and I was so blown away with her support and encouragement. The staff have a way of really making the experience personal and motivating and make an effort to acknowledge your improvements. My first week I can remember not being able to do one push up and now almost two years later, I am able to do chin ups, pull, ups and resisted push-ups.

What I like about BEFIT is its strong emphasis on making BEFIT a lifestyle. It’s not just about working out a few times a week, but also changing your mentality. Food was a huge factor for me and Josh did a great job at educating me on what “healthy eating” really entails. I learnt you can never eat enough protein, carbs are literally everywhere and bagels are never a good idea… This knowledge has completely changed my outlook on nutrition and really boosted my results.

BEFIT is not just a gym but a family. I have been fortunate enough to make some great friendships and encouragers along the way. The 6:30PM class has been great motivation and it is those people who get me up and going on the days I just don’t want to go. Shout out to my gym partner and #1 cheerleader John for keeping my nutrition in line! I’d like to thank the entire BEFIT family: Josh, Karen, Alicia, Joe, Chantal, Patrick and Ruth you guys are so good at your job and have created a really amazing place!”

“In all honesty, I was so nervous and hesitant to join the BEFIT gym. I have struggled with my weight since I was in elementary school and was intimidated by the thought of a bootcamp. My coworker signed me up for the two week trial in October and I almost bailed on the first class. I am so glad that I didn’t though. I’m now, not only 30lbs lighter, but I have so much more confidence and strength then I have ever had before. The trainers and people at BEFIT are amazing and they helped me to become a better, stronger, happier me!This past July, with the BEFIT family, I actually participated in Rugged Maniac and it was by far the most challenging and rewarding task I have ever done. I would not have been able to finish it had it not been for the training from BEFIT. Their expertise and knowledge gave me the skills to accomplish something I never thought I could do.

Everyone is so encouraging and it makes working out fun and not a chore. The environment is not like any other gym I have been to before. It’s not a competition amongst members but instead a group effort to be stronger, healthier individuals. I actually look forward to every class. A special thank you to my coworker Deb because without her I would have never joined! Looking forward to shedding even more weight and gaining even more strength with the BEFIT family! Thank you for everything!”

“I started at BEFIT in January of 2015. I had recently had a baby and was ready but nervous to get back into an exercise routine. I emailed Karen back and forth for way too long before I finally built up the courage to try it out. Before the end of the first workout I was hooked! I signed up then and there and haven’t looked back since. I have never dedicated and pushed myself as hard as I do at BEFIT. The team of trainers are amazing! They know when to push you when you need it, but also support and correct along the way. Once I cleaned up my diet, and put down the wine (sometimes), the results of my workouts came fast. Thank you Josh and the BEFIT team!!”

“I love my BEFIT family!!! A BIG shout out to all the trainers, Josh, Karen, Alicia, and Joe you guys are amazing. You push me out of my comfort zone every day to be the best me I can be!! The results show it definitely works. I changed my lifestyle from not working out and eating junk to working out every day and watching what I eat. I love the changes my body has made and I’m not done yet. Hard work pays off!!I enjoy sweating it out with my 5:30pm/6:30pm crew, you guys motivate me more than you know. Erin thank you for encouraging me when I need it the most. I love you my friend!!

Befit has changed my life, my energy level, stamina and all around strength. I’m not going anywhere!

“Flashback 5 years and I’d put myself in a pretty deep hole. Tipping the scales at an unhealthy 270lbs, battling depression and injuries from too many bad life choices I decided to get myself back on track. I tried working with a personal trainer. Personal training did not work for me. I ended up with someone trying to plug me into a workout routine comparable to the highest level Bootcamp Effect BEfit workouts. This was discouraging as mobility and conditioning was not addressed first and it put me off working out entirely for awhile. So I decided to start running. Did the Sun Run a couple times and Tough Mudder a couple times and pushed myself to do a half marathon. I think I got myself down to about 240lbs before walking in the door of BE 18 months ago.

I still remember my first BE session. I thought even with my conditioning from long slow distance running, but no strength training, that I would be fine. I was wrong. At the end of the first class I was white as a ghost and close to passing out (beginners don’t be discouraged by that statement, I could barely get through a sit-up as well). Each and every day after that for 15 months I slowly progressed through the first 2 levels of BE programming and have now been challenging myself on the BEfit workouts for the last 3 months or so. So why does BE work for me? Like most people I’m busy and I have more than enough to worry about throughout the day (and evening) with coworkers, customers, associates, competitors etc. that I just don’t have the time to piece together workouts that are fresh, challenging and keep me engaged. All I have to do is pick a time slot, show up, put in work and progress. BE is a fast paced, jam packed hour long workout.

This is different from other gyms I’ve experienced where most of the people there are just sitting around monopolizing equipment and taking selfies for their Tinder profiles. Nobody has time to deal with that nonsense. I’m a goal driven individual and once I reach my goals I set new ones. If you discuss your personal goals with the coaches at BE they will work with you to reach your goals. Josh helped me to shave 15mins off of my half marathon time by restructuring my workout regime. I don’t look back on where I was 5 years ago as a bad thing. I made lots of mistakes to get there but learning from mistakes is a natural part of growth. I’ve learned a lot on my journey and I’m now more vigilant now with my diet, exercise, the people I allow in my life and the situations I allow myself to be in. The hardest thing ahead of me now will be finding a new gym when I move (or convincing Josh to open another location).

So what are you waiting for? Set that first goal, smash it, celebrate for a moment and set a new one!”

“Slow progress is better than no progress…

I had been the queen of excuses with my fitness for many years. So many times I would start, with the greatest of intentions. I’d start strong, make a few gains, but ultimately abandon whatever it was I was doing. All justifiable reasons, at least that is what I convinced myself of.

My journey at BE started over 2 years ago. My twins were 6 months at the time. I had already put my back out 3 times since they were born. I was the heaviest I had been in my life and was tired all the time. My reality was staring me in the face, my only option was to get stronger, because they were only going to get bigger.

I looked into so many options, but BE was the best fit for me and turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I started fairly consistently, but old habits die hard and would find myself buying into my own bull-sh@# excuses. It really is amazing what you can convince yourself of. But, this time, instead of abandoning it, I kept being drawn back. And I did get stronger, but wasn’t losing the weight.

I guess It was just over a year ago now, I chose to really make my health a priority. Foreign concept to a mom of 4, but absolutely necessary and so incredibly worth it. I had some success with the Biggest Winner last year and it was the kick start I needed.

It hasn’t been easy, and sure, I’ve fallen off the track a few times, but you get back to it. Finding the time, discipline and motivation to eat well and workout consistently, is sometimes very hard, but feeling crappy about yourself all the time is hard too. Choose your hard.

I really can’t say enough about all of the trainers at BE. I would not have come this far without you. Whether it’s the emails, the words of support and encouragement, or the sideways looks with the “seriously, you need a heavier weight”. You have all helped push me get to a place where I crave going to the gym, and quite honestly get a bit aggro when I have to miss a day.

Josh and his crew really are changing lives everyday and I am so incredibly grateful for all of them. I’ve lost over 50lbs and many many inches, in just over a year. Actually, lost is not the right word, as I have no intentions of ever finding it again? I’m stronger than I have ever been and am excited to see where I will be a year from now.

For anyone struggling with their fitness and weight loss, you aren’t alone. I get the struggle, I’ve lived it. Reach out and ask for help. Changes don’t happen overnight, and progress can be slow sometimes.

Many of you already know all too well what it feels like to give up. Just imagine what it would feel like if this time you didn’t….

Spoiler Alert…. IT FEELS FANTASTIC!”

“Before I joined The Bootcamp Effect one year ago, I was stuck in what you might call a “fitness rut”, i.e. dragging myself to the gym, “half-assing” the same routine over and over, and struggling to stay motivated. While I’ve always tried to maintain an active lifestyle (playing soccer, hiking, etc.), I could never seem to make any substantial gains in my strength or endurance.

With B.E., I can honestly say that I no longer consider working out to be a chore. The classes are always fun and challenging, and the supportive group atmosphere (fueled by the amazing coaches) pushes you to work harder than you would on your own.

I am stronger than I’ve ever been, have increased speed and stamina on the soccer pitch, and have even seen improvements in my mobility. Staying consistent has never been easier thanks to the flexible class schedule, and the fact that I genuinely enjoy myself during each session. Thanks to Josh and the rest of the Bootcamp Effect team for creating such a positive place for people to reach their health and

“Thank you Josh, Karen and the Bootcamp Effect “All star” training team for even considering me for this, so many great hard working members to choose from, I’m humbled at every workout. Well, I played sports all my life, soccer, volleyball, yada, yada. Fast forward to my late thirties and hung up the soccer boots due to arthritic back issues. Switched to volleyball, until I tore my bicep tendon. Mid forties, thinking I had a good run, heard bocci ball and lawn darts were fun. Enter my fifties and my lovely (much younger) wife says she wants to try this Bootcamp Effect. My better idea, dust off those exercise dvd’s, use our home gym, get in shape while saving cash. Glad she hears my idea and signs us up for the 2 weeks for $20 trial. I loved sports but could count on one hand the times I went to the gym to workout. Never lifted weights, too boring and frankly I was afraid of getting hurt.

Deadlifts, thrusters? Aren’t those NASA engineering terms? I entered B.E. and my feeling of intimidation before the first workout quickly vanished as the trainers lead the group warm up. You really get the sense they have your back. Now a few months in and I realize that this isn’t only from the awesome B.E. trainers but also from your fellow teammates that are beside you giving it their all. Yes teammates, and if someone would have told me working out was a team sport I would have thought they were cuckoo bananas! But this is B.E. I not only look forward to getting my butt kicked but also seeing the people and friends that continue to inspire me, “misery loves company” but in a totally great way!

We are all works in progress and The Bootcamp Effect really helps to remind you that physically and mentally it’s never too late to be a better you. Everyone deserves to know their potential, to realize it is up to you. Looking for the fountain of youth? It’s off the Langley bypass at The Bootcamp Effect. So thanks again to Josh and Karen and the B.E. dream team of trainers, Alicia, Chantal, Jared, Joe, and Shawn. They have you at hello. They passionately educate, motivate and cultivate a culture that I can only describe as “tribal” in nature and I’m proud to be part of the tribe.

Must be so cool to be changing lives!”

“Because I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy, the doctor said that I had to lose weight and change my diet or else I would be at risk of getting type 2 diabetes later in my life. This was a big wake-up call and I knew I had to do something especially because I wanted to be around when my daughter grow up and more importantly, to be the best role model for her. I worked out on my own and managed to lose 10 pounds but then motivation was the main issue. I was going to the gym working out for 1-2 hours per session and I felt like I was going nowhere.

I decided to check out a bootcamp so did a Google search for a bootcamp that was located nearby and that had multiple classes to choose from and BE came up at the top of my screen. Location and scheduling are very important to me because I am a first time mom going from being on maternity leave to returning to work while juggling family, work and life in general so I needed the flexibility. I checked out their website and was intrigued. In April 2016 and 6 months postpartum, I booked a consultation with Josh and tried out my first class following the consultation and I was hooked right there. I also joined PN extended by BE in July and have been learning new tools and adopting the habits in order to change my lifestyle as I want my weight loss and management to be a permanent change, not just a quick fix. Months later and 14 months postpartum, I’m down 40 pounds (50 pounds in total) and still going to BE.

Looking back on my experience as a BE member, I have learned so much and am amazed at what I am able to do such as going from not being able to do a single burpee to doing 45 burpees in 3 minutes. That’s my biggest achievement to date. The key thing I have learned throughout my experience at BE is to trust the process. You don’t lose weight or become a fitness expert overnight. Keep looking back on how much you have improved and this will keep you going. One last key thing I have learned is… no brain, no gain! I am currently dealing with a shoulder injury and Josh and the BE team have been amazing at modifying the program so that I am able to fully participate in the workout session.

Finally, I really want to thank Josh, Karen, Alicia, Joe and the rest of the team for the guidance, motivation and support and especially for making the atmosphere fun! That’s why I keep coming back and I look forward to losing the last few pounds and upping my fitness level.”

“I’ve been coming to The Bootcamp Effect just over three years now and it’s been one of the best decision I have ever made. I was never the guy to go to the gym, never had the motivation. I always assumed metabolism and some physical activity would be enough to maintain. However the weight slowly increased.

My wife and I tried a few different gyms before we finally found The Bootcamp Effect. It was recommended by a friend of ours that had gone through quite the physical transformation. I was impressed so we signed up for the trial. Honestly, I almost didn’t go back after the first day. It was quite the workout. But I stuck it out because I knew I needed to make a life change.

It took me a couple of years of attending Bootcamp to learn that you cannot simply show up to class and expect change. You have to work hard, show up everyday and eat right! Making life changes outside of the gym is just as important if not more. My wife and I now commit our weekends to preparing ourselves for success during the week.

Thanks to Josh and my Bootcamp family for all the amazing guidance and inspiration to continue to make positive changes in my life. Having a fun environment certainly has me coming back for more each week!”

“Being fit” always had and end destination in my mind – once I lose X amount of weight or once I look like this person I’ll be done. This was the mentality I had coming into the Bootcamp Effect – “I’ll work hard for 6 months and eat right and then I’ll be done”.

I’ve been coming to BE for more than a year now and during that time my fitness philosophy has done a complete 180. Josh and his team go above just getting you through the doors for a workout and it shows – be it through the nutrition coaching they offer with PN – the extra workshops they offer to help improve mobility, technique, and flexibility – or the monthly newsletter with nutrition, lifestyle, and motivation tips.

They have created an environment that is more than just a one hour workout but one where they want you to succeed outside of the gym all hours of the day as much as inside. I now get up every day excited to improve my nutrition and fitness and look forward to walking through the doors at BE for my workout instead of it being something I need to check off a checklist – fitness has changed from an end destination to a lifestyle for me and a huge part of that is because of the Bootcamp Effect.”

“I was that person, the person who is too busy doing ‘things’ in life to realize that my health and physical ability were slowly slipping away. Poor lifestyle choices and constant stress with no self-care resulted in continuous weight gain…five pounds here…ten pounds there, until I could no longer recognize my own body when I looked in a mirror.A friend introduced me to BE and suggested I join. I responded with nervous laughter and said I couldn’t make it happen because my body was too sore and too out of shape. Moreover, my life was just too busy for bootcamp. She rebutted my response and told me there were over 50 classes a week and that I could squeeze it in somewhere. Finally, she confronted my avoidance with one of the BE mottos: “Results or Excuses, Not Both” … and with that challenge, the time had finally come, I attended my consultation and then was off to my first session.

The atmosphere was inclusive and inspiring with people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. Everyone was giving it everything they had until they ended the session with a round of high-fives and a commitment to see each other again. I was hooked on the philosophy and quickly committed to attending sessions 6 days a week…no excuses.

After 10 months of sweating it out at 7am with the most incredible group of members and trainers, I’m still as committed and inspired as I was when I started. I feel like these morning sessions offer the perfect mix of instruction, autonomy, comradery, challenge, and playfulness to keep me engaged. It was like a switch flipped and I was final able to make the activity and lifestyle changes that helped me recover my health and fitness levels I lost after a decade of self-neglect.”

“I’ve been consistently going to The Bootcamp Effect for a year now, 5-6 times a week. I’ve always been a big guy, and someone who enjoys sports. I work a fairly physical job and at the end of the day I was done – why work out when I had busted my butt all day at work, right? Well unfortunately I wasn’t that person who could eat what I wanted without it adding up.

I had tried modifying my diet through various programs, generally leading to a maximum of about 40 pounds lost each time. Then old habits would come back and so would the weight. I needed something different. That’s when I tried The Bootcamp Effect for a week to see what I thought – I’ve never looked back since.

I still remember how nervous I was that morning walking in and doing the new member orientation with Karen. I’m sure glad I did walk through those doors as everyone has been so helpful and encouraging every class since that day with Josh , Karen , Alicia & Laurie paving the way for me.

A year later my lifestyle includes getting to camp 5-6 times a week, prioritizing meal prep and having protein and veg at every meal. Some people do well on their own – I need support and a fitness “family” to keep me honest; at home it’s my wife, at the gym it’s Josh and all the trainers.

I’m down 114 lbs as of today, I can physically complete fitness exercises I would have never imagined trying a year ago, I have grown to love the workouts, and I have an entire new wardrobe that feels great on. We are all a work in progress and at The Bootcamp Effect you quickly learn that when you DO put in the work you will see progress, and it feels good.”

“I joined Bootcamp Effect at the end of February with some encouragement from my wife who was already a member. Being overweight and having every joint in my body ache, I realized it was time to make a change.

My first few weeks were very difficult getting used to the new workouts and also the soreness from not being used to working out. However things got easier and I really began to enjoy the changes in my body. I look forward to going to the gym in the evening, getting out of the house, off the couch and being around good people. As for Josh and his staff, they are truly amazing. Without all of their motivation and constant pushing these results would not have happened and I thank them for that.”

“When I walked into my first class at the Bootcamp Effect, I was totally unsure of what to expect. I was scared, scared that I wouldn’t even be able to complete a single class. So scared, in fact, that I didn’t tell anyone in my life that I was going, just in case I couldn’t handle it. My history with nutrition and exercise has been a roller coaster ride for as long as I can remember. But I decided that I needed to master a healthy lifestyle and fitness needed to be a part of that.I had my first meeting with Josh and then my first workout with Joe. There was no judgement. They didn’t make me feel like maybe I couldn’t do it. Instead, the team at Bootcamp Effect offered support and encouragement. I knew right way that this was going to be a far different experience than the roller coaster I was used to. And just like that, all my fears subsided. Week after week, I’ve seen results. I’ve started to love working out and I’m even excited when the coaches push me to accomplish more than I did the week before.
The team is here whenever I have a question about nutrition. They even put together a workout regime for me for times when I travel for work!I’ve gained so many tools and I’ve finally found what I was looking for from a gym experience. I am so grateful for the support, encouragement, and for the sense of belonging I have received from all the coaches. “I’ve been overweight all my life. The weight just kept slowly increasing throughout my adult life until I finally realized I had a problem. I tried various diets, did weight watchers (twice), ran steadily for a year. Each time I lost weight, hit a plateau and then stopped. Since joining The Bootcamp Effect I’ve had my eyes opened to changing my lifestyle choices and realizing there is no quick fix. Sunday has become food prep day at home. We grocery shop Saturday’s so I have everything ready. Sunday’s I prep my lunch and breakfast meals for the week, cut up raw veg to have on hand, cook up extra rice/quinoa to have available for weeknight meals. What once seemed like a daunting and overwhelming task has now become routine. I am not quite at my goal weight yet, but am very close. I’m finally at a place where I like what I see in the mirror. I have a confidence I’ve never had before and am happier than ever. I still surprise myself at what I’m capable of doing now. All the staff at Bootcamp Effect have been beyond words spectacular. “Joining The Bootcamp Effect last October was the best decision regarding my health that I have ever made, hands down. I have been overweight my entire life. I have struggled with food for as long as I can remember. My version of exercise was walking and doing a half ass job of a workout DVD in my basement. I have done different weight loss food programs that start off well but aren’t maintainable. Josh has really opened my eyes and I have now changed my lifestyle. This isn’t a fad, or a quick fix. This is my new lifestyle. Working out is now one of my priorities. Making time for me to better myself and my health is important. It’s important for me, my husband and my children. I have learned so much about nutrition from Josh and Karen. “The 2 Plate Rule” is amazing, I swear by it. I love it. It has become second nature to me. (Look it up on the blog, it will change your life.) Since I joined last October I am proud to say I have lost over 110lbs. However, I am even more proud of seeing what my body is capable of. I am excited to push myself to do new things, usually with a gentle nudge from a trainer :). It’s very rewarding seeing myself getting physically stronger and doing things I never thought I would be able to do. Josh, Karen, Alicia, Laurie and the other trainers are amazing. I can’t say enough good things about these people! I can not even put into words how much they have helped me over the past 7 months. Josh and Karen are incredible, they are two of the most motivating people I have ever met. Whether it’s pushing me when I need a push, giving me a little pep talk when I am in need or receiving one of Josh’s motivational emails. They are always there when I need them and I appreciate it so very much. I am very honoured to be called an All Star and thankful to be a part of The BE Family. “I joined The Bootcamp Effect about a year ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I’m so happy with the way I look and feel. I never had any drastic weight loss but instead I gained muscle weight. I always felt that I was on the weaker side but now I feel strong for my size and I’m often being told “you are stronger than you look.” I would say my key to success has been consistency. Sometimes life gets hectic but an hour of time is all you need for Bootcamp. I know that I will work way harder in just that one hour at bootcamp than me going to the gym on my own for three hours. The way the workouts are constructed at Bootcamp Effect has been the primary reason I have been so consistent. The changing workouts keep me interested and always feelings challenged. It’s also reassuring to know that if I need help or have any questions the Bootcamp team is always there to help with their wealth of knowledge.”

“Spinach and chicken! Spinach and chicken! Protein with every meal! Get in a workout as often as you can! Consistency is your key to success! These words have been tattooed in my head over the last 5 months at Bootcamp Effect. 5 months; that’s it, and I feel great. Prior to coming to Bootcamp Effect I was desperate. My eating habits were BRUTAL and I was gaining weight at the speed of light. I couldn’t tell by looking in the mirror (denial!) that things were getting out of control but the numbers on the scale were climbing fast and I no longer fit comfortably into most of my clothes. The final crushing blow was a picture my husband took of me while horseback riding last summer. At this point I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I think about that shot but I’m not sure whose ass was bigger; the horses or mine!!! With perfect timing a good friend of mine (Stefanie) told me that she was joining Boot Camp Effect and planned to participate in a Weight Loss Competition through them called the Biggest Winner. With “devastating photo” in mind I pretty much joined on the spot; the biggest selling feature for me at the time being 51 classes/week. I can’t believe my awesome stroke of luck at finding this very special place. Josh, Karen and the rest of the BE trainers are amazing and truly give 100% of themselves in the work that they do. There is no question you have to put in the effort but the staff and other members are there to help you stay accountable. Josh always signs his emails and blog posts, “Committed To Your Success” and that is exactly what you get and how you feel when you join The Bootcamp Effect.”

“I’ve always been passionate about health and fitness, but I was never motivated to push myself when attending any gyms in the past. After studying medicine abroad, I moved back home to study for all of my licensing exams and during this time I wanted to find a gym that would allow me to gain in strength, endurance and overall body composition. My sister and I joined the Bootcamp Effect in January 2015 and it immediately felt as if we were joining a family rather than a gym. From the first day I felt I was a part of the existing comradery. Every trainer has always been very friendly and encouraging me to do better. I’ve been dedicated to attending Bootcamp Effect 5-6 days a week not only because I have noticed a substantial increase in my personal fitness level, but also because I enjoy working out with the people I have met. Josh has done an excellent job in creating work outs that cater to every person’s individual fitness levels. I am thankful to be a part of this gym and excited to face new challenges every time I work out. Thank you to the entire Bootcamp Effect team.”

“In 2013, I relocated to the lower mainland from the central interior. It was a big change for me – new work environment and away from my friends and family. I was inactive. I ate out frequently, and got out of shape fast. I wanted to get back in shape and tried many different gyms and activities, but none worked for me. It was only recently that I found Bootcamp Effect, and I felt right at home. Josh was always helpful as well as the rest of the staff, Karen, Alicia and Laurie. I have a few issues with my knees but I was told to modify and do what I can. It’s a non-threatening environment where everyone does their best at their own fitness level. I didn’t think I could workout five or six days a week, but I did. I felt stronger and invigorated after each session, and have benefited greatly from the entire body workout approach. I especially appreciate Josh’s regular emails/reminders to stay committed and consistent. One of his many gems that stuck in my head was that you can’t out exercise your diet. He keeps things simple… good diet and regular workouts = results. I am grateful for the Bootcamp staff, and thrilled with my journey into a healthier lifestyle.”

“I joined Boot Camp Effects 4 months ago, so I was more than a little surprised when Josh asked me to be the ‘All Star of the Month’. When I started in September, I was dealing with the passing of my mum, my back and neck hurt constantly and I was outta shape. Although I looked healthy, did some walking, biking and running. I hadn’t done any weight resistant exercise in a long time. I was spending a fortune on massage and chiropractor, but it wasn’t helping. I was excited to get started at BCE, met new people and have support. I was going to get strong and healthy. I knew that nothing was going to change with my health unless I changed it. I had to stop waiting to feel better and make myself better. On my first visit I explained to Josh that I had Ankolysing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis that causes chronic inflammation. It also causes my bones to spur, fuse and deform. Right from the beginning Josh and Karen have been there to modify my workout. Ask how I feel, give me tips on posture and stretches. The personalized treatment I have received has been amazing. It’s only been 16 weeks since I joined BCE and I am feeling better and stronger. I will always suffer from A.S, but right now I feel amazing. Close to pain free. If you are thinking of joining BCE, but are holding back because of medical issues and your waiting until you feel better. Stop thinking about it and just do it! This March I turn 50. I plan on celebrating in the best shape of my life. Thank you to the amazing team at BCE. Your workouts are fun, the people are friendly, positive and the instructors really care. You guys are changing lives!”

“I joined Bootcamp Effect about a year and a half ago under some peer pressure from my sister and my son. They were really having a good time and getting really fit. I wasn’t sure I’d fit in. I was so pleased to find out that BE is an atmosphere where everyone fits in, regardless of age or fitness level. I really appreciate the personal touch, as the trainers actually remember everyone’s name and are always smiling as you enter the gym. Sunny atmosphere aside, the encouragement, correction, and coaching you receive from Josh, Karen, Laurie, Jenn, and Alicia is unsurpassed. I can’t thank you enough, Josh, for the tips you gave me in regards to my dodgy shoulder. I seldom lose sleep because of it anymore. I am so glad I succumbed to the pressure and joined BE, it was one of the best decisions of my life!!”

“A couple of years ago I joined BE after failed attempts of getting fit at a “big box” gym. The workouts at BE really challenge you and changing it up monthly really keeps you on your toes. I’ve always been a pretty active guy and was athletically average. This year however my fitness has improved significantly to the point that I qualified to be in the Elite heat at the Spartan Race World Championships in Tahoe, California. I am definitely not just Joe Average anymore. I truly believe the trainers and my fellow BootCampers are a huge part of my improvements and transformation. You guys rock.”

“Wow, has my life ever changed since finding The Bootcamp Effect! Josh and his training staff have been so supportive and taught me how to train with the safest and most effective results. Thanks for always correcting me! There is a train hard mentality and I believe that starts with seeing Josh and the trainers doing the same workout as we do . To me that shows they believe in the workouts that are created for us. Josh and Karen have helped me learn how important nutrition and eating for results is… It took a while for it to sink in, but they were relentless with me and I thank you for that! Last thought is the peeps at Bootcamp Effect. You guys and girls have become a second family. Stay motivated!!!”

“I joined bootcamp over a year ago. I was looking for a life change. I had just been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder that had caused my body to take on a mind of its own. I didn’t feel like myself anymore and knew I needed to make some big life changes. I found Bootcamp Effect and everything changed. It was challenging to make it to the classes when I was so sore from the first few workouts. But it took only a few classes to know I was hooked.
I love the classes; they are both fun and challenging. The variety is great, something different everyday so you never get bored.
Through this journey at BE I’ve been able to get in the best shape of my life. I feel strong and beautiful. I can’t thank Josh, Karen, Laurie, Jenn, Alicia and Erick enough for all the encouragement and helping me push myself through each workout. I look forward to coming to such a positive and friendly environment every day. You guys have helped me make some amazing positive changes and helped me set and accomplish goals that I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be able to obtain!! Thank you so much!!”

“I remember one of my very first sessions with Josh, he handed me weights to do some bench presses and I looked at him like he was crazy because I was sure they were way too heavy, he told me to try it, so I did.. And of course I rocked it! It was around that moment I was hooked!
In my time at BE I have learned so much from Josh and the team, and I am forever grateful for everything they continually do. They are always there to help through struggles, help set new goals, push me just a little harder and pump me up and make me feel as though I can accomplish anything! I go to the gym looking forward to my workout and being really worked, which is something I would never be able to push myself to do alone at a gym.
My journey so far has had its ups and downs, but I am proud of myself for every step I have taken! I couldn’t have done it without the support and guidance of the BE team, and my family and friends, so thank you all SO MUCH! But I am not finished yet!”

“I thought it was the end of the world when the gym I had been going to for 4 years closed its doors. It was the gym where Maxine and I met and we soon found ourselves searching Langley for another facility that would meet our needs….little did we know that 3 months later we would come across the Bootcamp Effect! Best Gym Ever!! The free week did it for me and I immediately signed up for 6 months. After initially losing some weight, I found myself getting stronger and was soon able to celebrate small accomplishments like holding a 5-minute plank or doing a chin-up without a running start. I decided it was time to lose some more fat cells and with some encouragement from a couple of BE friends, I joined up for the Biggest Winner challenge! I stopped sabotaging myself and with much support from the BE trainers, other BE members, family and friends (especially my hubby – he learned to love fish with no complaints), I was able to lose 17 lbs over Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! BE has been part of my daily routine for 3 years now and I don’t ever see that changing…where else can you get a fun, challenging workout and meet the most amazing, supportive people! A big thank you to Josh, Karen, Jenn, Laurie, Alicia, Erick and Connor for knowing that I am capable of so much more than I thought I was and for always giving me that little extra push…and thank you to all my BE friends for always cheering me on! It was not the end of the world when that first gym closed down, it was the beginning of something truly amazing!”

“I have now been attending The Boot Camp Effect for one year and just reached Allstar status. I didn’t want to echo that same comments as everyone on this page but I have to say there really is no other gym like The Boot Camp Effect. I have reached new fitness levels that I did not think was possible one year ago. The workouts in The Boot Camp effect have completely changed my body, power, strength and stamina. One thing I can say is that this gym is very addictive and if you keep up with consistency you will see amazing results. Thanks Josh, Karen, Erick, Laurie, Jen, and Alicia for all the time you guys have spent training me and a big thanks to all my BE friends.
PS. A big thank to my wife for letting me attend so many classes! (Had a say that to say out of doghouse). Also if it ain’t slim fit I ain’t wearing it. Be fit!

“Growing up, I was always quite active, but as an adult, I realized that I had become very busy but less active. When my husband and I signed up for our free trial week at The Bootcamp Effect, I remember Josh asking us something like “what is your greatest barrier to fitness?” My answer was “time.” At that point, I didn’t know how I was going to add another thing to my already packed day, but I figured (like with everything else) that if I liked it enough I would make time for it. Almost a year has now passed, and I clearly like it enough – not only to make time for it, but to make it a priority in my life. With typical fitness programs, the novelty wears off quite quickly, but the ever-changing workouts at BE keep me interested and challenged, and the trainers and members keep me amused and engaged every single day. I worried about time when I signed up, but BE has actually made extra time for me in my day, because I leave work on time so I don’t miss the workout. It is amazing how an extra hour at work or at home doing chores can disappear without any significant gain. An hour at BE is always time well-spent with compounded benefits. As an added perk, Bootcamp Effect has made my activities outside of the gym more enjoyable too! I love to hike, bike, and ski (on water and snow), and the strength I have gained as a result of BE has made me much better at these activities too (without even trying). Last summer, I couldn’t figure out why I was suddenly skiing so much faster, longer, and better. My friend said, I think it’s ‘the bootcamp.’ Thanks to Josh, his team of trainers, and the BE members, I am experiencing The Bootcamp Effect… PS. If BE ever offers a lifetime membership, I’m in!”

“When I started originally in 2013 I thought that going for a month or two would help me kickstart my way to health. The summer before my Dad had a massive heart attack, which he thankfully survived, but it got me thinking about my own health. After my 2 months at The Bootcamp Effect I thought I would be able to continue on my own in a gym. Every time I went someone was using the machines or equipment I wanted to use and I was always fumbling around trying to figure out what to do instead. I started back up at The Bootcamp Effect in February of 2014 with the mindset that I was in this for the long haul. There are no equipment issues here! One year later I’m an all-star! I find it weird to write that as Josh has structured his classes to be more of a team environment. Sure you have to put in your individual efforts and set your goals, but all of the people around me and all of the staff have been there to help motivate me and keep me accountable. The one thing that has really stuck with me this entire time is that there are over 100 people that roll through the doors each day and Josh and his staff know everyone’s names and really make you feel welcome. This isn’t your typical bootcamp. I was an extreme couponer and have seen a lot out there. With the flexibility of schedules and the fact that it has full gym equipment makes them a winner. I want to thank Josh, Karen, Laurie, Jen, Alicia, and Erick for always reminding me that I can go that extra 10 seconds or give it one more rep. They make working out fun and enjoyable and I always look forward to class. I look forward to life with this new body and all the things I’ll be able to do myself (already signed up for Tough Mudder this year) and all the things I’ll be able to do with my son as he grows up and becomes active. The only negative thing I have to say is that I’ve had to buy so many clothes in the last year because I keep shrinking! I went from a 38 to a 33/34 and had to replace my entire wardrobe! As Cam said after he reached All-star, what’s next? Thank you again to the trainers and everyone who comes to the classes for all the fun and motivation. I forgot to add one last huge thank you. I also want to thank my wife for the support and love during this last year. Without her I wouldn’t have been able to get to this point. On a completely separate item, I saw this and thought Karen would find this hilarious!!”

“I’ve always been a bigger guy wanting to get in better shape, but struggled to make any progress. A few months going to the gym and I’d lose motivation from not seeing any results. Or I’d get sidetracked with life and my fitness would take a back seat. The latest and greatest supplement would always be in the kitchen cupboard but never seemed to stick. Then I signed up for the Bootcamp Effect. Then things changed. Best. Shape. Of. My. Life. All thanks to the entire team at The Bootcamp Effect. What made this gym different? Why was I able to get tangible results? Scroll through the past All-Star’s or Biggest Winner participant’s testimonials and you’ll find a common theme. The word fun appeared more than 25 times. Positive came up 20. Other words like motivation, energy, friends, team, all appear in abundance. I can only echo the same. The workouts are tough, sometimes insanely. But you get through it, enjoy it even. All because you enjoy being there. You enjoy results. You enjoy seeing change. You enjoy your fellow bootcampers company. You enjoy The Bootcamp Effect.”

“The day I joined B.E. in November 2013 was the same day I’d been diagnosed with a recurrence of Colon Cancer. I remember driving back from VGH wondering what to do, what I’d tell my kids and my parents. Somehow that drive landed me at B.E. in the middle of the afternoon. The entire staff was there for a meeting when I walked in. I wasn’t sure if I should plunge into boot camp under the circumstances but I knew I needed to do something to improve my health; maybe now more than ever. Karen greeted me and was the first person to hear my story. When she saw that I was having difficulty holding my emotions in check, she hugged me like she’d known me forever though we’d only just met. I think I knew then that this was more than a gym. For the next 16 weeks I challenged the patience of the trainers (Laurie & Jenn in particular) on a daily basis with an ever changing attitude that varied from anger to self pity to determination. Thankfully, they challenged me back. Though they understood the nausea and frequent bathroom trips, they didn’t hold back from pushing me to my limits. THAT WAS THEN. I could go on now about how much fitter I’ve become since then. How great the workouts are and how much I love feeling like I’ve nailed this only to have Josh come up with something even tougher. I could talk about the inspiration I’ve drawn from seeing so many others improve their lives by improving their health. But what really deserves to be stated above all this is the sense of family we have all been a part of creating. We work hard together, we play hard together and when one of us is down, someone’s always there to help us up…and sometimes to give a stranger a hug.”

“It has been a great experience coming to The Bootcamp Effect. I appreciate you, Karen and all the trainers that encourage, correct and compliment me as I go along on my fitness journey. Since I started, last February, I have gone from a size 12 to a 8 and by the time the Weight Loss Challenge ends in December, I will have reached my goal and lost a total of 24 lbs. How do I know I will lose those last pounds? Simply, because of the never ending encouragement and advice I get from you and Karen. The emails from you always telling your members that they can reach their goals and not to STOP their journeys or get discouraged. The trainers always pushing me to my potential, and also watching I do exercises the right way. Lastly, the fun….the laughs….sometimes even a little dancing…..and the great people I work out with at The Bootcamp Effect, make for a great place to reach my goals not just for a short time but for a life time.”

“When I first started at the Bootcamp Effect, I considered myself somewhat in shape. I also felt it was time for a new fitness challenge in my life, so I signed up for the free trial week of workouts. What a humbling experience! I found the workouts to be extremely challenging and it seemed as if everyone at bootcamp was fitter, stronger and faster than me! Those first weeks were difficult and I began to doubt that I was “cut out for this.” But the ongoing encouragement from the trainers and fellow members helped me push through and find my stride at bootcamp. This team atmosphere is what makes the difference for me at BE: everyone wants everyone else to succeed. The fun, positive environment inspires me to push myself harder, to try new things, and to break through new personal barriers. The trainers are always right there to offer help, encouragement and to answer any of the questions I have about fitness or nutrition. I’ve grown a lot at bootcamp. I’ve accomplished things I never thought I would be able to. My attitude towards working out has completely changed: I totally look forward to my bootcamp workouts – they are one of the highlights of my day! I want to thank Josh, the trainers and all my fellow members at BE for all of your support and encouragement along the way. I’m very honoured and proud to be named a Bootcamp Effect All Star!”

August 2014

“5pm Monday, August 12, 2013 – my initial consultation with Josh. Shortly after which, I commenced my first class at The Bootcamp Effect; but not long after, I felt sick to my stomach and wasn’t sure what hit me. I have always considered myself to by “active,” was in track and field and played soccer and volleyball competitively throughout grade school. Before BE, I worked out at different gyms, practiced Bikram and various types of yoga, snowboarded, golfed and hiked multi-day backcountry trips – I thought I was “in decent shape” (whatever that meant), but I was bored of going to the gym and was looking for a new routine. It wasn’t until my first class at BE, where I quickly learned this was exactly what I was looking for and needed. I wasn’t able to keep up with any of the exercises and was sure everyone else must’ve been skipping exercises. After a day or so, I decided to give it another go… days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months – I was (and still am) addicted. Trainers often just tell you what to do and in the midst of a workout, sometimes you can’t fathom the idea of going any faster or lifting harder. What I love about BE (amongst many, many other things) is that I get to work out alongside my trainers (goes without saying they have excellent endurance, strength and all that we strive for at BE). They exemplify that it is possible that one can lift heavier, go faster etc. (Having said that, it’s one thing to observe them, it’s another thing to be partnered with one of them. I partnered with Erick for a few classes, it was a love-hate relationship – loved the motivation, hated that I had very minimal breaks.) Not only are the trainers amazing motivators, the members at BE are second to none (especially team 4:30 and 5:30). Josh, Karen, Jen, Erick, Alicia and Laurie are so personable, energetic, encouraging and knowledgeable about fitness, I love recommending them. (Though, “some can hack it, some can’t.”) During this last year at BE, I have achieved many goals which I never even considered. I went from barely mustering 3 pull ups to 10+ (haven’t actually recently tested it to the maximum, my body feels like it’s in constant recovery), completed my first Sun Run while achieving my goal of coming in under 1hr (and I am not an endurance person) and finished the Tough Mudder with all obstacles unassisted (except for the 10ft Berlin Wall). I was pleasantly surprised to think both the Sun Run nor Tough Mudder ‘were a lot easier than I expected’ (without BE training, I’m sure I would’ve thought otherwise). I feel strong and able take on most challenges, I feel less stressed, I feel like I am the best version of me I’ve ever been before and I feel like this is only the beginning. I currently attend 5-6 classes a week and when I miss a day, I cannot wait to go back! Thank you BE team for your endless support.”

July 2014

“Wow, thank you to The Bootcamp Effect for selecting me as all-star of the month. I started Bootcamp on January 2nd 2014 at 244lbs not as a New Year’s resolution but as a decision to make a lifestyle change and improve my health. I was looking at my very sick dad and decided that I don’t want to follow in his foot steps when I am his age. I had not worked out since highschool and was in poor shape and took my health for granted. I looked up Bootcamp Effect on the internet and read all the amazing testimonials which helped me decide this was the gym for me. My first class was the 6am class with Laurie (one of the trainers) and about 15 other members. We started with 10 situps, which I could only do a couple then push ups followed by running lengths of the gym then came the dreaded burpee’s “OH NO”!!! I pushed myself so hard I thought I was going to be sick. I ran outside to try and catch my breath. Thank goodness I did not get sick but it sure showed me how out of shape I was. Laurie came to me to check and see if I was ok and said it happens to some people when they first start exercising. Laurie modified my program and assisted me on my journey to get fit but was always there each class to push me to do my best. Now 8 months later I have lost 48lbs and have just passed my first goal being under 200lbs for the first time in 20+ years. I have gone from a size 40 inch waist to a size 32. I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been in my life. I can complete the full daily workouts and yes that includes those dreaded burpees. I now try and better my times each week and cheer on the other members as they did for me to push for success. I even entered the Times Colonist 10k in April for the first time ever and finished it. Next up is the Tough Mudder!!! Josh and Laurie helped me with my diet. They said “EAT CLEAN” no pop, no sugar, no processed foods and get plenty of protein. I tracked everything I ate and checked in with them from time to time when I hit plateau’s and stopped losing weight. At one point I was gaining weight and did not know what to do. Josh grabbed me after class one day pointed me in the right direction. Bootcamp Effect has become a part of my daily routine. I can’t start my day without it. Thank you to Laurie, Josh, Jenn, Alicia and all the other trainers, without your support and guidance I would not have achieved these results. Everyone at Bootcamp Effect from the trainers and other members, thank you. I know I still have far to go but I have a great support team at Bootcamp Effect to help me reach my final goal.”

June 2014

“On September 4, 2013, pushing 210lbs, I arrived at The Bootcamp Effect scared, oh man was I scared, and very, very nervous! However, I was certainly ready to make a change. I had my consultation with Josh about 15 minutes before my first workout after hearing from a friend about a Biggest Winner challenge and I hoped it might be exactly the ass kicking I needed to get my weight under control. Josh and I chatted about my short term and long term goals and I was just so impressed with him and his genuine caring demeanor, he made me feel so incredibly comfortable! I remember specifically telling Josh that I wanted to loose weight because I was ready to consider myself an athlete again. To me their was this massive change that I went through after high school where I went from athlete to “athletic” and I absolutely hated the way I truly did “let myself go.” I was dying to be an athlete again as well as see that athlete looking back at me in the mirror. I was ready to feel what that feeling was again! The Bootcamp Effect has totally made that happen for me by continually pushing me, and pushing me above an beyond what I could have ever imagined I could do! All the trainers know exactly what you are able to do individually and will never steer you wrong! If you need a modification because you are not quite at the advanced exercise – yet – it is no problem, and the trainers always have positive suggestions to help you build to those exercises. The past ten months have been the most rewarding of my whole life! Not only have I lost 32 pounds and over 45 inches (with close to 15 inches alone coming from my stomach) and who knows how much fat! (lots, just LOTS of fat!) my confidence is through the roof and doesn’t even compare to the way I used to feel about myself! I have muscles in places I didn’t even know existed and I am a much happier person to be around. When you feel stuck with yourself its a lonely place to be, so my advise to anyone feeling unsure about if BE is right for them would be to take a chance on yourself! Jump in with both feet!! It is absolutely AMAZING the results you will get from Josh and his team from just showing up, and continuing to show up. In the past 10 months their have been many people who have watched me show up and encouraged me to show up and put the time in and to them I am forever grateful. To my AMAZING trainers Laurie (I could write an entire book about how much I LOVE Laurie, I owe her so much for everything she has done for me these past ten months) Jen, Karen and Josh and my many special friends who I have grown to know from the 8:30am class, thank you so much for your support and encouragement! Each and every one of you always saw the changes in me before I saw them in myself, and celebrated with me in those changes before I even could! Your encouragement has been SO motivating! I am very overwhelmed and extremely honoured to be called a BE All-star and am looking forward to continuing on this journey with BE as I still have many goals I WILL accomplish. I am looking forward to challenging myself at BE for many, many years to come and I am very excited to see the changes in my mom and friends who I have inspired to join BE with my constant talk about how wonderful it really is. Forever grateful.”

“Once upon a time, long long ago in a far off land called En-Ger-Land, there lived a little boy named Hoops. While out with friends one day Hoops discovered an enchanted potion called Bee-Yur….Ahhh Beer, I love beer. I’m English, we have a wealth of beautifully made home grown brews and I couldn’t get enough of the stuff. The more a person drinks, the bigger a person gets and the more alcohol tolerant a person gets. It’s a badge of honour to have ‘hollow legs’ in England. 6 to 10 pints a night became the norm and I would walk out of the bar looking as sober as I walked in. Then I would get a midnight curry, pizza or Chinese and off to bed. For work I used to spend half my time on planes, in hire cars, drinking with customers and eating late night fast food in hotel rooms. The rest of the time I was sat at a computer planning the next trip. In 2001 at 350++ lbs (My scales didn’t go any higher) I was diagnosed as having Type 2 diabetes. I could no longer control my mood, body temperature or even my bladder. I was in a bad way. Doctors gave me a cocktail of drugs, doom and gloom stories, and sent me to dietician courses. This worked, it pretty much scared 50lbs off me within the first year. I started eating healthier, walking at lunch times, using hotel gym equipment etc. I was self-motivated and on the right track. Then complacency slowly started to whisper in my ear… 1 beer won’t hurt Hoops… Have a burger and fries for lunch and skip dinner Hoops… And the weight started creeping back up. Yoyo diets were pretty much my life for the next 10 years. I would lose 20 lbs one year gain 15 the next and so on. All the time my diabetes was getting worse. The pills were slowly getting less effective to the point I had to move on to insulin. I HATE NEEDLES!!!! One night I was sat in my local bar and overheard the staff talking about a group that was presenting an award earlier that night to the biggest loser. Next day I Googled biggest loser Langley and came up with a local outfit The Bootcamp Effect. I read through a few stars of the month comments and thought… ‘maybe this is the solution I am looking for’. Yes for the first 2 weeks you ache, yes it can be tough (You are never asked to do more than you are capable of). The great thing is that you are surrounded by the most supporting group you will ever meet. Not just the trainers your fellow campers too. It’s a team effort and we are all in it together. It’s a pleasure to get out the office and be surrounded by positive, smiling, motivated people. I grew to love it, I started competing against myself, setting goals and trying to beat them. So here I am now, down 49lbs since New Year. Blood pressure is normal, cholesterol is low and NO MORE DIABETES!!! The only drugs I take are vitamin supplements. I eat more sensibly and waaaay more than when I was bigger. I’ve also killed Beer. Well almost, I have a few when I hit a goal but no longer have hollow legs, I get wobbly after 2. Mentally, I am happier, positive, more tolerant and think more clearly about what I want out of life. It’s all pretty amazing. I set myself a 10 month goal and reached it after 4 months. My new goal is to get down to less than 190lbs, a number I previously thought only existed in fairytales.”

“I attended my first session at the Bootcamp Effect on my birthday in 2013 with very little athletic background or previous gym exposure. That day was a burpee challenge – definitely the most intense way I’ve ever celebrated my birthday! I was quite intimidated to walk through the front door for the first time because I had no idea what to expect and I was nervous that my lack of athletic experience would make me stand out in a negative or embarrassing way. However, I kept reminding myself of the amazing results my wife Jenn had achieved as a BE member a few years prior and drew from her accomplishment (& continued success) for my inspiration. Within moments of entering the building I was warmly welcomed by several members and quickly felt the positive energy of the people around me. By the end of my first month, I was hooked! What an amazing place! The workouts are meticulously crafted and change each month to keep it interesting and effective. The trainers are committed to building personal relationships with each and every member, they are encouraging and consistently show a true desire for individual success. The group session environment encourages healthy competition and team accountability. But equally, it is important to note that BE is more than just a gym or bootcamp that offers great workouts and dedicated trainers; it is a culture of winning attitudes and positive energy, it is a place of acceptance and encouragement, it is a place to work out the day’s stress or frustrations, it is a place to set and achieve goals, it is a place of education (with respect to both exercise & nutrition), it is a place that celebrates change, it is a place of comradery, it is a family I am proud to be a part of!I’d like to thank the staff at BE for your display of passion in everything you do – your drive for the members’ success is second to none! I’d also like to specifically thank my wife Jenn (also a BE trainer) for being my workout buddy, for keeping me accountable and for providing me with excellent nutritional guidance and food preparation at home!I encourage everyone to BE the change you want to see! ”

“My whole life, I’ve always been thin but I’ve wanted to be more than just thin. I decided to join The Bootcamp Effect so I could become toned. What I got was so much more. For the first time in my life I feel strong, and it’s the most empowering feeling. I love being strong! I find my focus at the gym these days is less about my body image and more about personal growth. Having a body to be proud of is just a bonus. Seeing Josh, all the trainers and all my friends at The Bootcamp Effect everyday is the simultaneously the worst and best part of my day. It’s always worth it in the end. ”

When I first contacted The Bootcamp Effect for my trial week, that first day I sat in the car trying to get up the nerve to go in. I was so nervous afraid that I wouldn’t be able to hack it or that I would look foolish. Right from the start everybody was so supportive and encouraging. Its impressive how all the trainers make a point to remember your name and make you feel welcome every time you walk through the door. The workouts are awesome and there’s always one of the knowledgable trainers right there to correct your form, or push you to lift heavier or go harder. They have the ability to give you the confidence to exceed your own expectations, and for that I am grateful. The way the workouts are set up to change every month stops you from getting bored and creates a new challenge. Before I joined BE I had been doing the workout tapes at home for years and I had become bored and unmotivated. No chance of that now, as the classes are high energy and full of supportive and encouraging people. I am in the best shape I have been in for years and have the bootcamp effect to thank for it! Thank you! Josh, Laurie, Karen and Jenn.

January 2014

After years of looking at myself in the mirror and feeling unhappy with what I saw, I decided to follow the lead of a friend and check out The Bootcamp Effect. Until then, I have to admit that the few gyms I’d tried after some misguided New Year’s resolutions had all been either too boring and uninspiring or just not my style. The Bootcamp Effect had been the total opposite of everything I’d come to expect in a gym. During the first week of absolutely feeling sick to my stomach after every workout at the Boot Camp, I thought of giving up again because it was too hard and I was just not cut out to be active in this environment. Just then I received all kinds of encouragement from Josh and his team of trainers to keep at it and set out some goals. I began (at their suggestion) to keep track of my daily food intake and this got me on the road to some serious re-evaluation of my lifestyle. I began to look after myself and had managed to drop some 20 lbs. very simply by following a pseudo Paleo diet.In January 2013, after having been at the BE for about four months, I suffered a cardiac episode (aka heart attack) just after Saturday morning class. During my stay in the hospital, I realized how important The Bootcamp Effect had become in the overall well-being of my life. The cardiac nurses informed me that my choice of joining The Bootcamp Effect was perhaps the single most important factor in minimizing the effects of my heart attack. At that point, I was determined to get back to BE and not just struggle through the workouts, but to excel at what I was doing. I told myself that you will never know your true limits until you push yourself to them.Well, here I am. I remember that August evening in 2012 at my first Boot Camp class when Josh pointed to where the skipping ropes were and I said to him that I really did not know how to skip; he looked at me and said “Zulie, over here everybody skips”. He proceeded to show me how, and after a year and a half, some 50 lbs. lighter, with a basket full of goals, and a whole lot of attitude to see them through. Thank you Bootcamp Effect, you saved my life!

December 2013

With encouragement from friends that workout at The Bootcamp Effect, I actually walked into the doors of BE at the end of June. I saw a workout in progress and I felt overwhelmed (a bit scared) and thought I don’t think I can do that. 🙂 And with summer on the way, a busy life, a business and six kids, I decided timing was not right for me. I kept feeling miserable about myself, but in the back of my mind I knew I needed to make changes. But I wasn’t ready yet. I had been on the email list of the bootcamp for about a year. I loved the emails, the Facebook page, and the advice and info that was helpful and simple. I saw the email for The Biggest Winner (and my friends messaging me to get back and try my free week!) so I decided September 2014, I will try it, and sign up for the contest at the same time. Some extra motivation. I am thankful for the encouragement I received right from the get-go.My very first week at BE was the start of The Biggest Winner. Monday, September 16th. (A day I will never forget!) I worked out so hard that I actually got sick at the end of the workout, but I did it! And I finished my workout. I pushed myself from the very first day. I did the next day,Tuesday (I took the Wednesday off) Then I went for the rest of the week. The second week I did 5x (Monday to Friday) per week until the end of October. When I was starting to feel more comfortable in October, I upped my intensity in my workouts, and I was starting to feel really good, and making progress I could see and feel. The weight started coming off, and so did the inches. In November, I did 6x per week (Monday – Saturday) In the last 4 weeks of The Biggest Winner I decided to double up my Tuesdays and Thursday cardio when I was able to.I also had a printed paper calendar on my dresser for every month of the contest, and recorded all of my workouts, how I was feeling daily. A checkmark for every workout completed. Visual proof, and a record of the work I put in. The challenges etc. On a top sheet, I recorded all of my goals for the next month. In simple bullet points. I looked these goals daily. I also put post it notes on my mirror to keep me inspired. As for my eating, I followed as best as I could the BE Fit Nutrition guidelines provided, and I asked for advice when I wasn’t sure or needed help. I was drinking 8-12 glasses of water daily, and I gave myself a once a week splurge (usually on the weekend) and then back on track the very next day. I recorded everything I ate in myfitnesspal.com. I also tried to get as much sleep as I could, and upped my healthy fats. I also did weekly weigh ins at BE to keep me motivated every week. In the first week I lost a good amount, and then the next three weeks I didn’t lose anything, but my body was making changes that I could see. I never gave up, even when I didn’t even think I would reach my 10%. I just kept ramping up my intensity, asking for help and pushing myself each and every workout. At the end of 12 weeks I made my 10% and I was really proud of myself for not giving up. Even if I didn’t win the contest, I am still SO happy with my results! The contest for me was just a beginning, and the after photo is my “in progress” and here I am now at week 14 and I am still losing! I have continued with 5-6x per week classes, and am running 3x per week. I am going to be starting a 10 km run clinic in January. I have big goals for myself in 2014 and I am so encouraged and supported at the BE. I know I will reach my goals! I thought running was my favourite thing in the whole world, but The Bootcamp Effect has become my second family and favourite workout! I am so happy when I am there, and proud that I am still working at my goals! I am so excited for 2014!

November 2013

I joined bootcamp at the start of the summer after being recommended by Marcus, a long time member as well as a co-worker and friend of mine. I had never been to a bootcamp or any other type of group training so I was quite nervous and didn’t know what to expect. From day one Josh and his team made me feel extremely comfortable starting from a very beginner fitness level to where I am today. The type of workouts Josh puts together along with the nutritional information have allowed me to reach and set new goals faster than I ever thought. If you ask anyone that knows or works out with me Bootcamp Effect has truly changed my life. My success from the biggest winner challenge this fall was the result of 100% consistency, both in getting my workouts in 4-5 times a week as well as building a solid meal plan. Preparing meals at the start of each week had a positive impact on my energy levels for my workouts and decreased my chances of making the wrong choices. I never felt guilty having a higher fat or calorie meal here and there because I would make sure it was built into my weekly plan. The most valuable aspect of Bootcamp to my success is the many new friends I’ve met in the 7:30PM time slot. These people along with Josh and his trainers are your biggest keys to success that you won’t get at your everyday gym. Thank-you to Felix for challenging me and making sure I get to every workout, Rani for the nutrition and meal planning tips, Rene and Gary for making me comfortable at bootcamp right from the start, and of course Marcus for getting me to suck it up and start in the first place. Overall bootcamp is a challenge I need in my life to help reach goals I find very difficult to achieve at a contemporary gym. Thanks again Josh and your team, you definitely have a Bootcamp Effect advocate for life.

Josh has created an atmosphere where working out is fun, inviting, exciting, challenging and, most importantly, effective. Although there are many other bootcamps and “functional training” facilities out there, few of them compare with the Bootcamp Effect. The methodology and science behind Josh’s training sessions emphasize fat loss while creating muscle and maintaining the structural integrity of the body. You could write a textbook on the reasoning behind daily, weekly and monthly exercise combinations. Luckily, as a member you just have to do the workouts and not think about that! Personally, I have not only noticed an aesthetic difference in my body, my athletic performance has greatly improved. On the soccer pitch, I am able to kick and throw the ball farther than ever before. I constantly find myself transferring what we work on in the training sessions into my daily life, which includes a continuous soundtrack in my head of Josh telling me to brace my core and pinch my shoulder blades together. I want to thank Josh for his commitment to creating a world-class training environment. His commitment to the fitness industry and improving people’s lives is evident in every member who has deconstructed their own perceptions of what their abilities are. Whether you are new to fitness or are a seasoned athlete, you will not only achieve your goals, you will push your body beyond what you ever thought possible.

First off, I want to give a big shout out to all the trainers at BE (past and present). Without you guys, there’s no new and improved me. So thank you for helping me push my limits, correct my form when I’m doing it wrong and most of all making BE one of my favorite places to workout. I’ve done many Bootcamps over the years and it all begins with lots of fun and excitement, then it becomes a routine and I start to lose interest. By the 6th month (sometimes sooner than that), I’m already looking for another Bootcamp to go to because of lack of versatility in the gym. But that all changed with BE. It’s been almost a year since I joined BE and I’m still here. The reason…? Great workout changes/challenges every month, great atmosphere and best of all awesome trainers who care for your fitness goals. What more do you need? Thank you BE for helping me with achieving my goals and looking forward to exceeding them in many years to come.

“I joined Bootcamp Effect in February. I joined for a few reasons. First and foremost was to get into shape and lose weight. Bootcamp has done that for me. Thank you. When I joined I was coming off a injury that put me on the sidelines for some time. With the help of Josh and Karen and the staff at B.E. I have gotten back to a decent shape that I can now do the things that I love . Thanks to B.E. I am able to run, bike, swim and lift weights and feel good about it. It feels good to have fellow gym mates to say you “look great” or wow ” you’ve lost a lot of weight”. With the positive people that go to the gym its hard not to be positive. The attitude in the gym is to have fun while working out . Most times while working out and sweating you barely realize you are working out. I have gained lots of friendships through the gym by doing fun things through our workouts and through out of the gym experiences such as Tough Mudder, Concrete Hero and beach volleyball to name a few. If I can give a bit of advice to anyone thinking of joining the gym . Come to the gym to work out and work hard. Come to the gym to be instructed and to be instructed how to safely do your work out and get ready to sweat and see results . No excuses. Big thanks to everyone at BootCamp Effect.”

“Wow, an All Star. I would have never put myself in a category like that one year ago, when I started Bootcamp Effect. But I want to say a Big Thank You. I joined to just lose some pounds that were getting out of hand. And now I find myself in much better shape and better life style for me and my family. Josh, Bootcamp Effect is a great Place. There is nowhere else that gives you a better one hour workout with variety, the touch of personal training and a hell of a lot of fun. Thank you again. I would not get up that early if you didn’t make 6am as fun as it is.”

“I started at The Bootcamp Effect in Summer of 2010 and am so thankful I found Josh and his team. After struggling with my weight through my teenage years, I finally decided it was time for a change. I tried working out at the gym, which wasn’t for me. I came home and googled bootcamp and found “The Bootcamp Effect”. Within the first 3 months, I went from being a size 7 to size 3. After that, bootcamp was a part of my daily routine and has been for over a year now. The trainers have so much energy and truly care about your personal goals. I haven’t gained a pound back from the weight I lost. Not only am I a lot healthier, I actually enjoy working out! The bootcamp effect is a good place for anyone looking to have an amazing workout and see changes – physically and mentally. Not only has the bootcamp effect kept me mental sane throughout my university years, It has helped me achieve my fitness goals. A huge thank you to The Bootcamp Effect team!”

“I’ve been battling poor eating habits and increasing weight for several years and during that time, I lost the same few pounds over and over again. My waist was expanding and my will diminishing. And then I tried bootcamp; and now everything is changing. During the past three months, I’m more active and less tired (who knew?) Josh, Karen, Laurie and Krystine instinctively know what I am capable of doing, even before I do. The workouts are extremely challenging, and equally rewarding! The program created by Josh encourages goal setting and celebrates success in a very supportive environment. I know I’m finally succeeding.”

“To be honest, when I started at the Bootcamp Effect I thought I would attend only for the month of my Groupon, but after the first week, I realized that I was really liking it, and by the second week, I knew I would join full time. Through his knowledge, experience and great attitude, Josh has put together the right combination of exercise, current and sound nutritional advice and a friendly atmosphere to teach and motivate us all to actually achieve great results AND have fun doing it! I like that the workouts are well planned out, very challenging, yet safe for all levels, and always lots of variety. No way to get bored, ever. I will admit, I am now addicted.”

“I was looking for a way to work out that I would enjoy. While doing so I gained 20 lbs and didn’t feel like myself anymore. I tried the gym but with no one to go with I would leave without getting a good work out in. I finally decided I wasn’t happy with my body and needed to do something about it. I have been coming to The Bootcamp Effect now for 3.5 months. I have noticed more change in my body in these 3.5 months then I had going to the gym for twice the amount of time. The Bootcamp Effect has become a major part of my life. Josh, Karen, Krystine, and Laurie are the most amazing trainers. They know how to make you work to get the best results and push you to the limits! On top of the best trainers, the other members are just as inspiring. To watch some of these people do their thing make you want to work harder. The Bootcamp Effect is a family and I love going there everyday! The Bootcamp Effect has not only made me lose weight but I feel a lot better about myself in all aspects. Thank you very much for creating a place for me to reach my goals and making me feel great about myself!!!”

“I joined The Boot Camp Effect in October 2012. When I first came, I was a little bit skeptical and nervous. Most of the workouts were new to me; initially, I found them very challenging. I remember struggling to do work outs such as squat to press & the sled push but with Kurt and Krystine it soon became second nature. The trainers took the time to correct my form & push me out of my comfort zone; they would even take the time after class to talk about proper nutrition and diet. The Bootcamp Effect not only provides a comfortable team environment, but the trainers are also very knowledgeable. By Christmas Break, instead of having Christmas goodies & relaxing like every other year, I was enjoying coming to Boot Camp twice a day and have maintained that to date. At my second body fat analysis, I was excited to see most inches were lost from my waist and lost 5% body fat in the first 3 months. I have to say, what sets The Bootcamp Effect apart from other gyms is the team environment. I’ve built relationships with the trainers and members which makes it exciting and motivating to come to work outs. Since I’ve joined, they have continued to take the time to achieve my goals through a fun environment, proper technique and nutrition. It’s rare to find such knowledge, accountable & motivating trainers like Kurt and Krystine & Josh – I’m so happy I found them at The Bootcamp Effect!”

“I joined Bootcamp in April of 2012 in wanting to change up my workout routines. I did the trial and just fell in love with how much of a workout I was getting and how welcoming the trainers were. The Bootcamp Effect offers a variety of time slots for classes which accommodated not only my needs but I am sure for others as well. I have learnt so much while being at The Bootcamp Effect with my dieting, stretching techniques and form when I am working out. I feel great after the work outs and always look forward to the next one. I love how the trainers are personable with members goals and are really wanting to help us achieve them. During the classes you can see and feel how committed they are their with helping individuals attain their goals. I’ve always said “Change your morning routine with Krystine” as I would not be an All Star without her – every morning she continues to push me with my goals and challenges me daily on what I can do. She understands my limits and know that I can always do “one more” or that I should “go heavier”. With the help of the other trainers they are consistently motivating me to go harder right until the end. All I wanted was a change of a work out and now I’m coming out a new me – feeling and looking great. Now with my new goal becoming “cute jacked” all I can say is that I’ve got some great trainers by my side to get me on my way. Thanks Bootcamp Effect team!”

“I remember coming to bootcamp for the first time and thinking how hard could this really be. Then after one class of struggling through the “Card Game” and not being able to bicep curl as much as my sister. I instantly knew I needed to step my game up. That is where Josh came in. The Bootcamp effect has had a major impact on my life. Not only has it allowed me lose weight but most important it increased my daily energy levels and crushed my too lazy to do anything attitude. Going to the gym is not a chore when you have The Bootcamp Effect. I think every member can agree it is something to look forward to when you wake up in the morning, it gets you through that long day at work knowing you have a great environment to go to and great trainers like Josh, Krystine and Kurt to help you give your all and max your reps out until you are passed out on the floor. You three do an amazing job at keeping everyone motivated and excited to be there. Thank you for all the hard work you guys put in everyday to help change the lives of all of your members.” “To BE or not to BE”

I joined The Bootcamp Effect in January of 2012 looking for a new workout spot after my previous class had been downsized. I found a Living Social deal for them and thought, why not give it a try? I got to my first class and immediately LOVED it! Sure, I was sore afterwards and it was about 20 times harder than my last workout classes had been, but it didn’t matter, I was hooked. Over the past year, I’ve been diligently coming 3 times a week (even the day before my wedding I made a point to show up!) because Kurt and the rest of the 8:30 class make it so fun and the results I’m seeing are stunning. I couldn’t even do a proper plank last year, now I can hold it for a full minute (or a whole tabata set!) It’s been an amazing year and I couldn’t have done it without the team at The Bootcamp Effect. I can’t wait to see how much stronger and leaner my body can get after another year here!

August 2012

I started going to The Bootcamp Effect in May of this year because I needed a change. I wanted to focus on my health and becoming the best version of myself that I could be. I have been active ever since I was a little baby Jenelle. I danced competitively all throughout elementary and high school, taught dance class for a couple years, and then my fitness took a turn for the boring. I tried the Bikram yoga thing and the running-on-the-treadmill thing but I was really just going through the motions; I was never pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. Bootcamp has changed all of that. My first week at Bootcamp I felt like I got run over by a semi-truck. And I loved it! I am in the best shape I have been in a long time. I also get to fulfill my shameless need for competition by trying to out-squat my fellow bootcampers or out-run them or whatever other weird sort of competition Josh comes up with at the time. As I am a registered massage therapist by profession, I recognize that taking care of the body and the mind are two very important aspects of life. Bootcamp gets the joints moving, the muscles contracting, the blood pumping, the endorphins flowing, etc. which decreases risk of injury and also sensations of pain. Bootcamp is a great stress reliever as well. I come every morning at 8:30 and I get to see my awesome friends and go nuts on the punching bag or flip a freakin tire! I don’t know what I did before Bootcamp and I don’t know what I’d do if I ever stopped going. Probably cry a lot. So come join us cause it’s the sweatiest, best time you’ll ever have.

July 2012

Hard to know where to begin….I joined my first gym on an impulse driving home from work one day a few years ago (2 or 3??). At the time it was what I needed to get me on the right track. I needed to lose weight and quickly. I was under an amazing amount of stress. Stress from work that was not going away, an illness with my husband that I couldn’t do anything about. Death in the family and so it goes… It seemed to not want to end and I was not happy and totally overwhelmed. The weight piled on and at my heaviest was a little over 200 lbs. I had some successes at that gym, and then they closed their doors. Looked for another in the franchise to join and it wasn’t looking good. Then my friend and I decided to try an actual gym with all the equipment and trainers available to you. It was huge, with lots of different classes to try. We did just about all of them and then Kurt showed up and had “bootcamp” classes 2 days a week at our gym. We tried it and it kicked our butts. Thought I was going to dye and Loved it! We got to where we were only going to the 2 boot camp classes with Kurt and another boot camp type class. Talked to Kurt and he mentioned a week free at bootcamp effect to see if it was what we wanted. To point out the obvious I was hooked immediately. The positive feedback and the kick I need to make me try even harder, is always present. I did all the work but didn’t really pay too close attention to my diet. I was eating a lot of salads and fruit some veggies and not so much on the protein. My first measurements came back disappointing, only 4 pounds of fat gone and not many inches. I was so discouraged. I took a food diary sheet and filled it out and looked like (to me) that I was doing everything right. Salads and no junk food etc… Boy I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was actually starving myself and my body was doing everything it could to hang onto everything I put in. I was in starvation mode and didn’t even know it. Josh took a look at it and it didn’t take him very long at all to notice what was missing. PROTEIN!!!! He told me to add a healthy protein to every meal and to have snacks as well that included protein. My next weigh in and body fat reading 10 weeks later – 11 pounds gone and 4% body fat GONE! I thought there would be more fat loss, I was still disappointed but after speaking with Josh and Kurt realized how good that was… I get it now. That fat is gone now and I have never felt more strong and in control of my health. I was a dancer for many years and even then I didn’t feel this strong. Protein good carbs and get my butt kicked 5 days a week at The Bootcamp Effect. To say I’m grateful is an understatement. I am in awe of you three Josh, Kurt and Krystine and what you do not only for me but for every person who walks through those doors. YOU THREE ROCK! Thank you

I thought I knew it all, boy was I wrong. When I joined The Bootcamp Effect I thought I was in good shape (I run marathons) and was just going through the motions working hard at the gym but not taking my diet serious. In April I had my body fat measurements done and was sadly mistaken and was given a real wake-up call. Krystine took me under her wing and held me to my food logs and made me stop eating “diet foods” you know the pre-packaged ones. Once I started eating properly and with some fine tuning from Krystine I started to see the results. I also love the challenges and being pushed from the work-outs and the trainers Krystine, Kurt and Josh never let me give 90 they push me to give it all every work out. Thanks guys for helping me go from a size 10 to a size 6.

April 2012

I joined The Bootcamp Effect for one reason… Tough Mudder! And here is my journey…Sometime in December I found out about this thing called Tough Mudder from a co-worker. I wanted to sign-up after the first video I saw, however, over the past 12+ years I have gained over 52lbs and I wasn’t in very good shape to be climbing, crawling, jumping, and running. So, I grabbed some ice cream, sat down on the couch, hit play on my favorite PVR’d shows, and surfed the net on my iPad looking for a gym in Langley… and the rest is history!I can still remember that first week in January… I emailed on Wednesday to setup a consult, went on Thursday to see it in action, and did my first weigh-in and class on Saturday. I spent of few of those intervals lying on the floor and I can still hear Josh just telling me to keep my head up so I don’t pass out. THAT was a rough class and a real eye opener. I set some realistic goals with Karen: Lose 32 pounds in 5.5 months and to be able to do chin-ups. Well, it took me just under 2 months to lose the 32 pounds and now I can haul my butt over walls and do chin-ups to tackle the Funky Monkey at Tough Mudder. My biggest issue was food: sugar, sugar, sugar, fat, and sodium. Josh got me to track all my food, and I did so religiously for the first 2 months. I bought a kitchen scale, I looked at nutritional info for restaurants before I went, I calculated recipes into portions, and I tracked every bit of food that I ate even down to counting and weighing almonds! Maybe a bit overkill, but it showed me where I needed to focus, and now it’s second nature. Around the 3 month mark I hit a plateau and my weight loss stopped for about 6 weeks. I went on a business trip and gained a few pounds back. Tough Mudder was fast approaching, so I changed things up and my body found another gear. I lost another 12 pounds in 2 weeks by changing over to clean/paleo eating. I feel more satisfied and I don’t have anywhere near the same sugar cravings as before. The Bootcamp Effect isn’t just a gym, it’s a COMPLETE life changing experience for me. The trainers help you with your nutrition, push you to get to the next level and get the extra calorie burn, help you work through any injuries, and keep switching it up to keep you interested and motivated. A big part for me is technology. Josh brought in some heart rate monitors, and I now track every workout with an HRM (and GPS if I’m outdoors) so that I have targets to try to beat next time. No more excuses about skipping a workout, or the outdoors being too hot/cold/wet… just pick a class and go all out! I’m all about the numbers: I lost 8 pounds in my first week. I lost 20 pounds in my first month. My total weight loss is 53 pounds (in 5 months), and there are just under 3 weeks until Tough Mudder. My best Grouse Grind time has gone from 1:05:00 to 43:57, and I was able to carry my son up the Grouse Grind in a backpack (35 pounds). I can do 3+ hour, 60km, 4000 calorie burn bicycle rides through the steep hills in Mission. And best of all, I am now enjoying a more active life with my wife and my 1 year old son! 🙂 P.S. My reward after Tough Mudder is a stuffed crust Pizza Hut pizza!!! I can’t wait!!!

“I’d like to thank Josh and the crew at The Bootcamp Effect for getting me in the excellent condition I’m in. I remember well the first class I went to, I was NOT in good shape! But I had fun and knew if I stuck with it that would change. The constantly changing workouts keep it fresh and new, there’s no getting stale or bored and the group dynamic makes it interesting and fun. Josh and his trainers are genuinely interested in your progress, they coax you along and give the motivation to push the extra bit that it takes to really get in great shape. The good weather is coming, and with it the return to outdoor workouts on Saturday mornings. I’m looking forward to ultimate frisbee again! Thanks Josh, Kurt, Krystine and everyone else at The Bootcamp Effect, I can’t wait for Tough Mudder! BOOYAA!”

I started The Bootcamp Effect because I was looking for something fun and motivating. Before bootcamp I was getting really bored of being at the gym on one of the cardio machines watching the clock slowly tick by, making it really hard to even get myself to go. Now I’m upset if I have to miss a bootcamp class! The workouts keep you moving and are always challenging if you’ve been there for a year or its your first day. All of the trainers and people around you motivate you to push yourself past the point you thought you could go. Not only is it about the fantastic workouts, Josh is committed to getting you body in the best shape possible and this includes diet!! After your one week trial, you’ll be hooked just like me!

“Before I joined bootcamp my drive to get in shape was weak and nothing really caught my attention enough to commit to a program. I have spent much of my time playing sports, in training sessions, as well as work out videos. None of these seemed to peak my interest or get the commitment as much as Josh’s bootcamp has. I have lost 16lbs and a whole wack load of inches all thanks to the the variety of exercises and passion Josh has for his gym. The atmosphere is always entertaining, as we all sweat together and grumble but the results are so worth it!”

“How Bad Do You Want It?!?! This is a question that Josh will ask you often. My name is Shannon and the answer to this question for me is really really bad!!! I’ve had two pregnancies and gained 60 lbs the first one hung onto 40 of those pounds and then prceeded to gain 50 more with my second. Apparently I love food. Now I love bootcamp! A friend asked me to do some research about maybe doing an excercise class while our girls were in preschool nothing seemed to fit the time frame that we had. Then I found The Bootcamp Effect online, on the add it said try a class for free…. I wasn’t the “type” to do bootcamp but who could say no to a free class. I said to my girlfriend well we will try this one class and if we don’t like it then we don’t have to go back because I’m not really the “Type” to do bootcamp I hate being yelled at. Well I’m here to say I’m sooooo the bootcamp type!! There is no yelling at you like a drill seargent. Josh is encouraging, supportive and just when you think your going to quit he makes you laugh or asks you how bad do you want it Shannon? How bad do you want that lean, tone body? Which makes me work harder. This class is fun, motivating and every class is different. My husband likes to hike and I had a hard time keeping up…. Not anymore! This class has given me confidence to feel good about myself and the stamina to keep up to my husband hiking. I’m looking forward to the coming months shedding more pounds and buying some new clothes. Thanks Josh for being a great coach and making me realize just how bad I want that lean tone body.”

“Before coming to bootcamp I was working out at home to Jillian Michaels DVDs. I “thought” I was giving it 100%, but let’s be honest; it’s pretty easy to quit early, pause it, or just plain press stop! Since I wasn’t seeing results, I quit doing them.  I knew I wanted to join something and I also knew it wasn’t going to be another gym. I need variety and a group setting – that’s why I chose The Bootcamp Effect.  After only a few weeks I started seeing results and I feel awesome! No more DVDs for me! ;-)”

“Josh and his trainers are really good at motivating you and adapting the exercises to your fitness and skill level, from beginner to advanced there is something here for everyone. The workouts are challenging and the people that attend are great. Overall, Bootcamp has a fun positive atmosphere. I can tell you from experience that the first class might be tough but if you are motivated, follow the dietary guidelines, and do the best that you can every time you are at Bootcamp, you will really start to notice changes in the way you feel and look. Josh will give you the tools and support you need to achieve your goals, the rest is up to you! So what are you waiting for?”

“My aim was to feel strong and confident in my physical body. Again…After 8 years of putting that on the back burner… Wow I feel great again and I really trust that strength in my body again. Just a few months (at any age)…Anything and everything is possible.”

“For the past 10 years I have had a fairly decent work out regime, reducing my weight from 230lbs to 205 lbs. AND I am only 5 7” so yes I am a bit of tank…an old 48 year old last of the Baby Boomers 1962 model…a cart horse not a pedigree race horse… Within what I was doing for work outs I was stagnating, getting injured, too many long repetitious work outs… Anyhoo…I was pissing around in my driveway last September pizzling with my bike lamenting my training doldrums, trying to move a roll of belly fat out of the way so I could adjust the bike brakes, when I Josh’s dad, Bobby crossed my path with the Saunders’ family hound… I told him about…two sore knees, work outs kinda blah…weight going up, motivation going down, sick of thinking what to do…tired of not making progress. Bob told me about Josh’s program and 10 minutes later he was back with sign up forms and an information package… So I signed up for the Boot Camp Effect…in October of last year… I was about to get coached by some kid whose nose I used to wipe during cul de sac road hockey games?? Zounds!! Well…the weight is down to 188 lbs so at least 15 lbs off…AND Muscle mass is up…tone is better…energy is higher… I am not doing everything I am told vis a vis eating and if I was then I think I would be lighter and more toned and CUT!!?? For the first time in my life CUT with washboard abs…okay settle down that is the next phase….this fall….stay tuned…back to the testimonial… The work outs are diverse…they are fun…Josh and his staff are high energy and knowledgeable (remember Josh has a degree from a major BC university in this stuff so this is not a random program)… The motivation is positive, energetic, encouraging and consistent…and the trainers are always sensitive to individual needs…different strokes for different folks. My knee pain, thanks to strengthening the quads and other leg muscles via several million body weight squats and other techniques…is virtually gone and I do have a Teflon knee ligament…the roll of belly fat is definitely diminished….there is a modest V shape taper…I am stronger and faster… This is a class for every man and /or woman 19-80 years old (except probably for prima donnas who know it all anyway…) who is motivated to get fitter but doesn’t want to be an expert…who wants to get buff…or who just wants to trim a little…or just feel better…or learn how to work out with proper form and technique…or get into a positive group exercise scenario… And the cost? Well compare it to the cost of medication if you crap out through sloth and avarice, the cost of a gym membership you never use and wouldn’t know what to do when you are there anyway… Ohh yes and both of my daughters have used the program too..they both love it also… SO THERE…what the hell are you waiting for…sign up and all aboard the pain train!! (Just kidding there is no pain train…unless you want there to be…)”

“When I was halfway through my first workout in early May this year, I was reminded of what Dr. McCoy said, ‘You have to be Vulcan kidding me!”. But somehow, I overcame the nausea, the shin splints, got used to not drinking (never thought that would happen), reduced my calorie intake (still miss Lays potato chips though) and now I am in the best shape I have been in, in the last 10 years. I am down 20lbs in 10 weeks and have lost 2 inches off my waist. I have just tossed all my size 36 pants, so I won’t be tempted to go back to that size again. Although it took some time to arrive at a decision to start this program, I started on this road as many do, by looking at ourselves, our family and friends, and some life-changing occurrences in our lives. I made the decision to change my lifestyle the old-fashioned way, eating less, eating better and exercising. I found Josh’s program and took the plunge. I was initially impressed with not only Josh’s technical knowledge but his encouragement and motivational approach to lifestyles and his ability to provide different programs on an on-going basis. This certainly helps to avoid a ‘routine’ which I sometimes found to be mundane when going to the gym. Josh also recognizes his clients as individuals and provides advice, tailored to the individual. It is also very helpful to have many like-minded, good people at the workouts, who are motivated and committed to a better lifestyle. I am now at the point that I make the workouts a priority. By attending Bootcamp three times a week (including a trip to Las Vegas) I have achieved my weight loss goal, but also feel more energetic, sleep better, and do not need pain killers for my back. I think goals are important and should be re-assessed form time to time. Now that I have achieved one of mine, I look forward to improve my conditioning with the goal of playing tennis again. Remember, whatever your motivation, success is 90% mental and the rest is in your head, and it doesn’t take a Vulcan mind-meld to do it.”

“I would highly recommend The Bootcamp Effect for anyone who wants to get off the couch and improve their health. I have noticed a huge improvement both physically and mentally in just 6 weeks. The workouts are challenging and varied so you never get bored. Exercising with a group is fun and the camaraderie keeps me going. Classes feel as if you have your own personal trainer in a fun, fast-paced environment. I feel muscles that I never knew I had! Josh is a perfect instructor for a boot camp as he is fun and a master motivator. He offers various levels of exercies for people of different fitness levels – intense or a little more gentle – both are possible here. Josh knows his stuff!”

“I have struggled with my weight for the majority of my adolescent and adult years. I had lost a significant amount of weight after high school but over the past few years I gradually gained it back due to inactivity and significant stressors in life. I started the Bootcamp Effect because I was close to my heaviest weight again and needed something to get me motivated. I had been a part of other bootcamps in the past but lost interest and motivation due to the monotony of the workouts and lack of commitment from the trainers. I knew that working out individually at the gym would not work for me as I need a trainer who keeps me accountable and motivated to achieve my goals. I found both these things with Josh and the trainers at the Bootcamp Effect; plus, it’s fun! I can honestly say I have never laughed so much while working out and I have never enjoyed working out so much, to the point that if I can’t make it to class I miss it. I have now been a part of the “bootcamp family” for over a year and I am never bored with the workouts as they are constantly changing and Josh is a revolving door of up to date fitness and nutrition information. The trainers take the time to get to know you and constantly push you to stay on track and achieve your goals. All in all, I highly recommend the Bootcamp Effect for anyone who is looking for a fitness program that gets you the results you’re looking for along with trainers that provide you with guidance and information on how to achieve a healthy and balanced lifestyle!”

“After thanking Josh for his help, I told him he’s stuck with me… just because my wedding has passed doesn’t mean I’m giving up bootcamp! It’s the best and most motivating workout regime I’ve ever done; Josh helped me achieve my weight-loss goal for my wedding/vacation, and now I’m ready for more! His support throughout, especially when I felt like I was on a weight-loss stand-still, helped push me harder than I could have ever pushed myself. Besides the fitness, his knowledge and advice on diet helped me achieve better weight-loss than months on Weight Watchers. Josh is the best personal trainer I have ever worked with and I recommend him to EVERYONE I can…. I was in Maui for 2 weeks and mentioned SEVERAL times to my husband that I really missed bootcamp and couldn’t wait to get back at it! YOU ROCK JOSH!”

“I joined boot camp under the impression I only needed to lose a few pounds and tone up. My first day of boot camp, I was eager and nervous as hell! I bombed at the warm up! I couldn’t do two jumping jacks without stopping for a breather! And a burpee? What was a burpee? You want me to do that?? I didn’t do so well on that either. I found myself asking everyone if boot camp would get “easier”, they said the same thing I say to newbie’s in the group now- Nope! Lol.. As the weeks went on, I still went with the motions, feeling a little defeated at times as I still could not complete a warm up. Josh motivated me to challenge myself and once I started to do that, the results were rewarding! Pounds and inches started sliding off! Even after I sprained my ankle and pulled a muscle and thought this would be it for my workout days…. Josh pushed me through and found me alternative exercise to keep me moving! The weight and the inches started to come off rapidly! Josh is a great motivator, sort of like another conscious to me, talking me through the negative thoughts. No matter how poorly you feel you have done, he pushes you to do more, faster! This was the great feeling of accomplishment at the end of the boot camp workouts. Upon receiving a consult from the nutritionist I learned how much and what to put in my mouth and that eating healthy never tasted so good! Now, 15lbs lighter and several inches smaller, I think my first impression was a false one. Not only have I lost the desired amount, I achieved more than just “toning up” I have muscles now I never knew existed and a whole different perspective on health and exercise! I learned exercise doesn’t have to be repetitive and can be so much fun! Thank you Josh and The Boot camp Effect for making this possible.”

“My first day of Boot camp was fun!!! Mainly because I was uncoordinated, lost my balance a few times and really didn’t have a clue what I was doing. But Sunday (the day after) I sure felt it. My body hurt so bad I could barely move. My body had no clue what was in store for me the following 9 months after. I learnt how to exercise and do the moves properly and how to challenge my body. Now boot camp is fun plus rewarding. I learnt how to eat healthy again and to not live to eat but eat to live. A special thanks to our trainer Josh who made my first experience with Boot camp a wonderful one! Cheers!! Now I have leaner and sexier curves. Hard work and motivation really does pay off! Bring on the bikini weather I am ready to kick some ass!”

“When I started bootcamp, I honestly wasn’t expecting ‘fun’ to be in my description. I’m pretty happy to work out solo at the gym with my iPod, but nothing was improving, and it was hard to be motivated. Josh makes morning workouts enjoyable, even before I’ve had my coffee! (I’m not a morning person and exercise before noon was previously unheard of, so this is a big compliment, Josh!) The time positively flies by, and I look forward to the classes. A different workout every day keeps it interesting, and the flexibility of attending whenever I want was the deciding factor. Finding this bootcamp was truly the kick I needed to make some changes, and seeing the results is an amazing feeling! I’m walking another 60km’s in July for cancer, and I’m looking forward to doing it with less pain this time around. Thanks Josh, your commitment and support of each & every member is unparalleled!”

“For me growing up I was always in decent shape. Working out was always something I enjoyed….then my son happened. My metabolism seemed to diminish as I indulged in all those yummy foods or leftovers left behind by my boy. Fast food became a motto for me being so busy working and taking care of my son, trying to make sure he was eating properly. I kind of lost myself and what made me feel good in trying to take care of him. Slowly but surely the pounds came on. I would try to get back into the gym routine but with no results I became very unmotivated. Then a friend of mine told me about The Bootcamp Effect and to give it a try for free. I was extremely nervous my first day in being able to keep up with everyone but after hearing about her results I thought what do I have to lose! I must say, after day one I could feel more muscles in my body than I thought I even had, and it was amazing! I knew this was going to be something I needed to keep up with because no gym workout had ever made me feel like that! Every class is different, interesting, and a new challenge! Josh will push you to your limit all while laughing through it! I think of this as an extra ab workout! Unlike the pressure of a drill sergeant, when Josh yells at you to push yourself he does it with a huge smile on his face. There are people of all fitness levels motivating and pushing each other to do and be the best they can. Josh never lacks the energy for any class I have been to and if I am feeling tired he definently motivates me to get my butt in gear. Now I must also mention the fact that you get to talk to a nutritionist as well. I really learned that eating is also a big part in weight loss and just because you work out does not mean you can eat what you want. Needless to say joining Josh’s Bootcamp Effect was one of the best decisions I had ever made! It makes you feel great, look great, and also relieves the stress from the day. Thank you Josh for your motivation and enthusiasm. It really comes out that you love what you do which makes you the best. You always go above and beyond the basic workout class and show extra support for each person! I’m absolutely hooked!!”

“Up until two years ago, I was the definition of “skinny fat”. I never had to worry about working out or what I ate. I would have Wendy’s and a bag of chips, three meals a day. All of a sudden my metabolism stopped liked a derailed freight train. I would go to the gym or work out at home 4 or 5 days a week and see minimal results. Without any results to keep me going, that habit quickly disappeared. Getting frustrated I joined Josh’s boot camp with a friend and fell in love. Every day there is a completely different routine to keep you surprised and excited for the next session. I could not be more satisfied with the results. Josh doesn’t only push you to work hard, but he motivates you to push yourself to your highest potential.”

“I have been a very active person my whole life. Working out for me is a hobby, but I love to set goals and work towards achieving them so when I found that attending the local gym and doing the general fitness classes was not helping me achieve my goals, I started to look for something else. I didn’t know what that was going to be until I found Josh’s bootcamp on the web. His bootcamp is the most fun I have ever had working out. The variety of exercises every day keeps every class interesting and challenging. I saw some very dramatic changes in my body within the first 6 weeks and liked very much what I saw. I was so excited to have such fast results. Josh is the most attentive personal trainer I have ever met. He focuses on each person individually and personalized every workout. Thank you Josh for such a great experience and I know that The Bootcamp Effect is the only workout routine I will need from now on.”

“I have previously worked out 3 times a week at a local gym for 3 months without ever seeing results. Talk about a motivation killer. It was hard enough for me to push myself to go each day, but without any positive changes, I ended up giving up and cancelling my membership. A friend of mine told me how happy she was with her experience at The Bootcamp Effect, so I thought I would have to give it a try. Not only did I start seeing results within the first month, but I started to actually enjoy working out. Every workout is so different from the next, and that’s what I like. It keeps you interested and makes you want to come back. Josh is an awesome trainer. From the encouragement, to the guidance, to the constant support, he really helps you set goals for yourself and reach them. He also prepares you for a healthy future. I didn’t realize how bad I was eating until I started eating healthy, big thanks to the 30 day meal plan for some great ideas. I have surpassed my initial goal that I had set for myself but I have since realized that I can do so much more and that’s how my 3 month trial turned into a year round lifestyle change. Thanks Josh!” “How am I to know what I can achieve if I quit?”

“My experience tells me that things that turn out negatively usually serve a purpose for something in relation to be more of a positive experience. As is the case with one local bootcamp not working out and having to resort to Google only to find The Bootcamp Effect and meeting Josh Saunders, the man behind the madness (madness is a good thing is this context). Now, I’m in it for the long haul. It’s not a bootcamp to help me fit into that favorite shirt from years ago, it’s a bootcamp to keep me fit and in good health from now on. This is not a typical bootcamp and my success and progress thus far in such a short time is proof. I was active here and there, however, I wasn’t burning fat, building muscle, and losing as much weight like I’m doing now. Every month, I don’t shave off ten seconds off my 1-mile run; I shave off thirty. The high intensity interval training and strength conditioning activities change every session so it’s nice to do something different to keep it interesting and fun. Having someone to prepare, encourage, evaluate, and educate you on lifestyle, health, diet, and fitness in a highly positive manner is only the beginning. Josh possesses a wealth of information in this field and works with everyone individually and as a group. The Bootcamp Effect is there to show you that you can exceed your own expectations of yourself, challenge yourself beyond what you thought was possible, and have you realize your actual potential and surpass your own goals. A positive attitude, commitment, good pair of runners, and a cold bottle of water and you’re on the fat loss super-highway.”

“I started the summer program of The Bootcamp Effect with the intention of getting in shape. I have now gone through almost two months and not only do I feel more energetic I am now purely addicted to working out. I never want to miss a night and if I do I feel guilty ( like a kid caught with his hand in the candy jar ). I have never felt like this at a gym, where I would have dropped out by now. I owe alot to Josh and his training. He is very personable, knowledgeable, encouraging and yet makes you work for it. I won’t tell you it is easy, somethings you have to work for and I know this is one of them but with Josh on your side he will help you see and achieve your goals.” Favorite exercise: plank to push up Favorite theme: tuesday tabata Favorite quote: “I am not afraid to die on a treadmill.” Favorite workout song: “Loud” by Anakin Slayd

“I was working out at a gym four days a week, an hour on the treadmill or elliptical ’til sweating like crazy, 30 min. of weights, arms, legs and of course abs: 200 to 400 sit-ups on one of those neck saving stomach crunching machines. I was stuck, I couldn’t get to that next level, and lose that “last 10 lbs.” My friend found The Bootcamp Effect on line so we gave it a shot. My goal was to lose 5-8 lbs and see definition. One hour class, three days a week. In four weeks with Josh (and the right eating habits) I lost 7 lbs. I’m shocked how fast I’ve seen such major changes in my shape. It’s a killer workout, but worth it. And the best part is I got to go shopping ’cause none of my pants fit anymore!! Thanks Josh. Can’t wait to see what the next four weeks will do.” Favorite exercise: push-ups Lease favorite exercise: burpees Favorite quote: all of them!!!

I joined bootcamp to help lose the extra baby weight! My son was born last November and I had 15 to 20 extra pounds on me that just wouldn’t budge. I joined bootcamp in the beginning of May and have since lost 15 of those stubborn pounds! I was nervous about joining a bootcamp because in past experiences with fitness classes I became bored quickly. Josh is great at motivating me. He switches up the class themes and styles every time! You never know what class will be like until you get there. I had a C-section so I have some trouble with hard abdominal workouts, and Josh always helps out with modifications. And his nutrition assistance has helped me realize what I was doing wrong before! I am not only sure that I will lose the additional weight I want to, I’m positive that I can maintain it throughout the rest of my life! I am out of my “fat jeans” and was able to buy my first pair of hot mama jeans! Bring on the shopping!” Favourite Bootcamp Exercise: The bear crawl! Hands on the floor, feet on the floor and GO! As long as I don’t fall on my face, it’s a good bear walk! I’ve nearly face planted five times, but I still give it my all. Favourite Bootcamp Theme: Ring around the parkie! So much cardio. So much variety. It’s easy to push myself during this theme because you can look at the routine as baby steps: “Okay, all I’ve got left to do is 25 step-ups and then I can run. Okay, all I’ve got to do is pull the tire a few more feet, and I can run again! Go! Go! Go!” Least favourite Exercise: The fire hydrant. Well, really, it’s a love-hate thing. I love doing them but the next day, my body hates me for it! I can’t believe I went for FIVE MINUTES doing this exercise on one leg. Favourite workout song: Kickstart my heart – Motley Crue Favourite inspirational quote: Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away. (Pun intended! But honestly, they’re words I live by.) Favourite snack: Snap peas! So tasty!
