Biggest Winner 23 Weight Loss Challenge

weight loss langley

This is the recap of our 23rd Biggest Winner 12 week weight loss challenge.

Our participants are tasked with the goal of losing 10% of their initial bodyweight in 12 weeks. While this is a weight loss challenge and they are trying to lose the most weight that they can in a few months, the stress is put on building sustainable habits that will be with them for the long term.

We want them to develop habits that will take them through a season of challenges.

Creating an environment that works for them where there is the flexibility to enjoy themselves on occasion on the weekend, with the non-negotiables of getting right back to it on “Monday” and getting in a workout (Never Miss a Monday), prepping food for the week or both.

It’s about consistently doing the small things which become the big things over time.

  • It’s saying no when you are offered dessert at thanksgiving.
  • It’s saying no when you are offered halloween candy.
  • It’s eating a meal before going to a party so you avoid snacking on unhealthy convenience foods (CHIPS!).
  • It’s saying yes to believing in what you can achieve in both the short term (12 weeks) and the long term and beyond.

We remind our participants to not stress too much over the numbers…
To not get in their head if they only lose 2lbs a weigh-in…
That the work this week will show up next week…
That the body doesn’t respond on your schedule…

But if you keep putting in the work you will get to where you want to go.

Kinda like this…
weight loss

Yes, life is hard.

Our role as trainers/coaches is to provide the guidance, structure, and accountability before, during, and after these challenges to foster a seamless integration of a healthy lifestyle into everyday living. Enjoying life’s moments while steadily progressing towards our fat loss and fitness objectives.

And with that said, here is our weight loss stats for Biggest Winner 23:

  • Total participants – 70
  • Total weight lost – 757.5lbs
  • Average weight lost per participant – 10.8lbs per person

Since we started this weight loss challenge in 2010, there was a first this season where there was no male participant winner. (No guy lost more than 10lbs and the highest percentage of weight loss was less than 5%). In light of this, we thought it was the right thing to reward the individual with the most weight lost and the 2nd highest % of weight loss with the title of biggest winner (she also had a very high % of weight loss which would have won the previous 2 challenges).

WITH THAT SAID, HERE ARE OUR BIGGEST WINNERS SHARMAN & MEGAN!

Sharman completed 42 workouts in 12 weeks, averaging 3.5 workouts/week comprised entirely of SWEAT.

Here are a few words from Sharman:
“The challenge came at the perfect time, I needed to find the correct balance between nutrition / fitness and indulgences. My advice for future participants would just be to stick to it and you will see results. The first few weeks are hard. But as it becomes your new routine it gets easier. I see a future making much smarter choices. A huge thank you to the amazing trainers at Befit for their support, plus all the wonderful members who are so encouraging and make working out fun.”

Megan completed 53 workouts in 12 weeks, averaging 4.4 workouts/week comprised entirely of SWEAT.

Here are a few words from Megan:
“Deciding to participate in the challenge was great motivation to change my mindset towards a healthier lifestyle. Josh laid out a nutrition plan that was clear and easy to follow, always being open to questions for extra support. My workouts were all in SWEAT, working out about 4-5 times a week. This challenge was challenging but also very rewarding. The healthier changes that Befit helped a lot of us make will only have us reaching for new goals! I’m grateful for the opportunity and environment, Josh and everyone at Befit created to help me focus on my goal! I feel I am better because of the community that surrounds me! Thank you to my gym buddy Jackie for all the support and laughs! To Josh, Spencer, Joe and all the trainers at Befit! I’m proud of everyone who is focusing on a healthier self but…I’m also happy to see the women take this challenge!”

These individuals all lost at least 10% of their initial bodyweight in 12 weeks.

This was not a ladies only weight loss challenge, but they showed us how it’s done!

  • 17 women lost 10% or more with 6 of those individuals having weight loss percentages that would have won in some of the previous challenges.
  • 21 women lost 8% or more of their initial bodyweight.
  • 36 women lost over 10lbs in this challenge.

So what’s our take away from this?

Whether you’re male or female, who wants it more and who is the most consistent throughout the 12 week weight loss challenge will get the results.

Most people would reason that it is easier for a male to lose weight (and I wouldn’t disagree with that due to the complexity of female hormones), but the ladies got it done with 27% of all women achieving the 10% weight loss goal in this challenge with 57% losing 10lbs or more.

Now let’s talk about attendance.

Traditionally, the average attendance of all participants who achieve the 10% weight loss goal is around 4x/week.
And yes, amongst the 17 individuals above, they averaged 4.2 workouts in the gym with us throughout the 12 weeks. (This number may be a little low as if an individual was on vacation and training then they were not logging workouts in the gym with us (yes, you can still move the needle and lose weight while going on vacation).

So if you want results right now, that’s your blueprint. Starting today, get in the gym consistently at least 4x/week for the next 12 weeks. Eat more protein, and be mindful of what you eat.

As always, we’ll be here to support you.

Committed to your success,
Josh, Karen, Joe, Chantal, Spencer, and Sherry
