This will be the last blog post on thebootcampeffect.com. For all new eye opening writings on fat loss, motivation, and bootcamp please visit Boot Camp U. I will be creating many more articles and have plans to come out with an extensive video exercise library for you in 2011.

Now let’s get to the good stuff as the results are in…

The Bootcamp Charity Drive has been over now for about a month and I would just like to thank you all for your participation – from referring a friend to jumping right into our kick ass classes, I was very happy to see the turn out and had the pleasure of donating the money the other day. $1000 will be a big help in granting a kid’s wish and I look forward to putting on more events like this in the future. Here’s my receipt to prove to you I wasn’t just making this all up.

What was this all about?….$50 was donated by me to the BC Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for every new signup during the month of October.

Whether it be her constant quest for knowledge or her relentless motor during exercise, Stacey epitomizes the attitude that equates to fat loss success. Despite having an injury that may relegate some to give up on exercise or never think about joining a bootcamp, Stacey never failed to show commitment, kick ass, and have fun during her workouts. I’ve been a little behind on this article, but it was my pleasure to give Stacey 5 months of bootcamp, as I was hoping she would want to continue with my fitness classes (I didn’t even have to ask her, as she asked me).

Anyways, lets get to some results:

17lbs lost – 10.4% of bodyweight

Bodyfat lost – 7%

Inches lost – (not including arms and legs) – 7.5 inches

H2O levels – increased by 4% – water is good, we need to be hydrated!

Basal Metabolic Rate – increased by 50 calories (even though she weighs 17lbs less, her metabolic rate at rest is sill higher, meaning she could eat that 50cals extra each day and not gain weight!

You may say to me, “I have seen faster weight loss than that Josh!” – What I would say to that is… the slow and gradual fat loss, is the real stuff. It’s not water loss, it’s not dehydration, it’s fat – poof! Do you want to see what 17lbs of fat looks like? Well too bad, here’s a look at 5 pounds instead.

And now that you’ve earned this fat loss, your body is much more capable of …you guessed it creating more fat loss in an easier and more efficient way – and your so fit now, that you don’t get tired as easy, so you can push yourself harder. It’s a law of the universe, there’s no such thing as a free lunch…..well unless you’re this guy.

So get your mind right, we’ll get your body right, and when you enjoy exercise and are doing it among a great group of people , you’ll have tapped into the magic of exercise or let’s say The Bootcamp Effect

You can see view Stacey’s testimonial and more group fitness fat loss here.

Take care and all the best in your fat loss quest,

Hey guys,

I need your help!
I’ve always wanted to donate a nice sum of money to charity and am now in a position to be able to do that.

So I’ve decided to TAKE ACTION.
Here’s the plan…
From (October 1st – October 31st) I’m going to donate $50 for
every new sign up to our boot camp.

100% of this money will go towards helping children battling cancer and other life threathening illnesses. I have first hand experience of the amazing things this charity does for children in BC, and how it lifts their spirits and helps them get through the days (my brother is a cancer survivor and former patient of BC Children’s hospital).

I’m calling it the “Every Kid Deserves A Wish” and the goal is to raise at least $2000 for the BC chapter of The Make A Wish Foundation and help kids, so they can lead happy, healthy, and productive lives. So over the next 30+ days, I’m going to need your help. Not only will you get half off your next month (as usual), but for a little added incentive, I’m going to give a free 2 months of bootcamp to whoever brings in the most referrals (minimum 3 referrals).

So feel good about working out, feel good about saving money, and helping out a fantastic cause!

I will be updating this thermometer through October.

I am just finalizing the total for the month. I will be donating the money at the end of the week.

If you would like to register for the bootcamp click here.

Thanks,
Josh Saunders, BSC, CSCS
thebootcampeffect@gmail.com

Here is the bootcamp schedule for October:

Langley – Newlands Fitness Centre 20125 48th avenue
Tuesday, Thursday 9:30-10:30am

Now that I got your attention…

As you know, I offer referral incentives (which just happens to be a great way for us to help each other out)!
After all, who wouldn’t want to have bootcamp/group personal training for free?

Now, you know that word of mouth is the ultimate marketing method! In a world full of scams and “get rich quick” schemes, people feel safer getting told about a service from someone who has experienced it first hand with success.

And I appreciate these referrals so much that I discount your next month of bootcamp by 50%. Plus if you refer 2 people to bootcamp in 1 month, your next month is free! What could be better than helping a friend lose 10lbs and saving some money?

Remember, the success of The Bootcamp Effect is dependent on the hard work and great atmosphere created by the members, so please try to refer only positive people looking to improve their health and fitness! (No energy vampires please).

Here are some tips to referring people to bootcamp:

I have $50 gift cards that you can hand out. You may take as many of these as you want. I usually have a pile of them with me at every class. This gift card entitles a new member to try out The Bootcamp Effect risk free for 1 week before they decide to commit.

Send out an email to your contact list explaining the bootcamp you have joined and that you would love to have some them join you! Tell them they get a free session to try it out (or a free week if you give them the gift card).

Post on your facebook status. Mention you just got back from a great morning workout. Add a link in there to the website, so they know where to go.

Join The Bootcamp Effect Facebook group by clicking here and invite people to join the group with the link at the top left corner of the page – This is huge!!!

Forward The Bootcamp Effect Newsletter to all your friends or get them to sign up for it and get a free fat loss report here.

Put a link to The Bootcamp Effect’s site on your website.

Grab some fliers from me and post them at your work, apartment complex, or club. Challenge your friends to see if they can hang with you at bootcamp.

Imagine yourself referring 10 people, and getting the next 5 months of bootcamp free!!!! Now make it happen!

Cheers,

How to interpret your progress during your first month:

Are you hell bent on lowering that number you see on the scale? If it isn’t happening for you right away, do not stress, as it is not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN. Here is the inside track on the changes occurring in your body when you start resistance training…

See it is common in most REALISTIC fitness settings (not including fitness shows where you are monitored all day by health and fitness professionals), to see no change in your weight for the first 4 weeks. Now clearly that would bother anyone, after all, you pay money and you want results. Here’s the science behind no weight change…

Most individuals are dehydrated. Women should have about 45-65% water, while men should be between 50-70%.

If an individual sees no change in weight, they will usually interpret this as gaining muscle and start thinking that this muscle weighs more than fat. This isn’t the reason though… An untrained male in his early 20′s would be lucky to gain 15lbs of muscle in his first year of resistance training, and women who think that they can put on mass at a rate that rivals steroid monkey’s have to give up that mindset.

Here’s what actually happened…

You are drinking more water than your body is used to (8-10 glasses/day), and raising your body’s total water percentage. Do not try to avoid this and drink less water!!!! We are looking to change your body for the long term and you must overlook this. When I measure the majority of individuals on day 1, they are dehydrated and have a low metabolism. Having a higher water % will help to increase this metabolism and make everything work more efficiently in the long run.

Fast forward to month 1 measurements: When you step on that scale and see a 4% increase in your water %, I want you to think about what that means! A 4% increase in water in a person that weighs 200lbs equates to 8 more pounds of water in your body. Now if you see this accompanied with 0lbs of weight loss, then what you’re really seeing is that you have gained 8lbs of water and lost 8lbs of fat as you are still the same weight! The measurements will show it! Think about it. In terms of looking better, the inches mean so much more than the weight. Visually judge yourself in the mirror naked at home, and you will see progress! Somehow, somewhere, mass media has drilled into our heads that weight is the be-all, end-all gauge in which we equate our progress. And weight isn’t even the right term. We should actually be asking…What’s our mass? Weight…it’s actually supposed to be measured in Newtons and you would probably weigh like 800N, or 300N (if you were on the moon).

So asides from drinking more water, your body copes with the new and intense exercise by storing more carbohydrates in your muscle cells, so that it can be quickly used as fuel during workouts.

Carbohydrates are made up of glucose and are converted to glycogen (a form of glucose that is stored in muscle and used for energy during exercise). This glucose requires 3 molecules of water for every molecule. So as your muscles are building up glycogen stores, the body has to retain extra water. This process of extra water retention stops once the body adjusts. At this point (4-6weeks), the scale starts moving and you’ll end up with less fat, stronger muscles, and a higher metabolism that will make you a fat burning machine.

P.S. I didn’t touch on nutrition at all in this article. This will have a huge impact on your results. I believe the more you want it, the “healthier” you will eat. So until you are able to give up the food you know you shouldn’t be eating and adopt the mindset of food being fuel, you will struggle to get the results you want. Oh, and if you have had a problem with not eating, then you need to start eating!

Good talk,

Dear Belly Fat,

We shouldn’t have stayed together so long. Now, not only do I find you annoying, but the sight of you makes me hate you now. Infact, I want a divorce. You can keep the KFC fries and gravy, our favorite groove in the couch, and the receipts to the gym we never went to.

I mean, what were we thinking in the first place? We knew it would never work out. I want to have a long life void of heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and a myriad of other diseases. You found me when I had a moment of weakness and you latched on and took advantage of me. And I am better than that and I deserve more!

Best yet, I found this new crowd and I think I am going to start spending time with them for a while and see what happens.

With guarantees of fat loss, healthy meal plans and ideas, and a barrage of full body exercises, the divorce should be over in 6 months. And I don’t even think we should visit either, not even for Christmas for egg nog and cookies.

I know it’s cold, but I want to start thinking what’s best for me and you’re just not a part of that anymore.

I’ll send you a picture,

NEWSFLASH: Langley, BC

Pass around the hot sauce, the bayou has reason to celebrate tonight as the magic 8-ball that is The Bootcamp Effect 6am fitness workout has put in its bet for Superbowl Sunday (GO SAINTS). There was a male cheerleader, there was smiles, there was sweat, there was effort. There was opposing teams cheering for each other – this was the epitome of taking it to the extreme.

2 teams of women dedicated to their health and fitness goals left it all out on the mats during 50 minutes of high intensity interval training that had them flipping mats, crawling like bears, and jumping like frogs. The saints got off to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the colts 45-31 in a high powered explosive bootcamp that some are calling “SUPERFRIDAY.”

Commissioner Josh Saunders was pleased with the energy of the room. “It was contagious, everyone came out to work hard today. You just can’t teach that. You can’t tell someone to act like that. Savannah’s leg of the lunge relay was out of control! Susan was bear crawling with a sore wrist was inspiring. The Saints really did come together as a team, despite the Colts best efforts like Julie’s 2 minute plank!”

I look forward to more outings such as these and other events that inspire The Bootcamp Effect members to take it to the next level and have fun while achieving their goals. I leave you with this quote: “Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.”
